Marielle Nitoslawska
Marielle Franco (; born Marielle Francisco da Silva, 27 July 1979 – 14 March 2018) was a Brazilian politician, sociologist, feminist, socialist and human rights activist. Franco served as a city councillor of the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro for the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL) from January 2017 until her assassination. On 14 March 2018, while in a car after delivering a speech in the north of Rio de Janeiro, Franco and her driver were shot multiple times and killed by two former police officers travelling in another vehicle. Franco had been an outspoken critic of police brutality and extrajudicial killings, as well as the February 2018 federal intervention by Brazilian president Michel Temer in the state of Rio de Janeiro, which resulted in the deployment of the army in police operations. In March 2019, Ronnie Lessa and Élcio Vieira de Queiroz were arrested and charged with the murder of Marielle Franco and her driver. They confessed to the double homicide and ... 2018 Federal Intervention In Rio De Janeiro
The 2018 federal intervention in Rio de Janeiro was the first since the 1988 Federal Constitution. It was decreed by the Federal Government of Brazil in order to ease the internal security situation of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The measure was implemented by Decree No. 9,288 of February 16, 2018, granted by Michel Termer and published in the ''Diário Oficial da União'' on the same day. Before the intervention bill was issued, emergency meetings were held at the Alvorada Palace with ministers, Rodrigo Maia, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Eunício Oliveira, the president of the Federal Senate, and Luiz Fernando Pezão, the governor of Rio de Janeiro. 2016 Brazilian Municipal Elections
The Brazilian municipal elections of 2016 took place on 2 October 2016 and on 30 October 2016 (for cities with more than 200,000 voters, where the two-round system, second round is available). Electors chose mayors, vice-mayors and city councillors of all 5,568 cities of the country. The partisan conventions took place between 20 July and 5 August. The party political broadcast started on 26 August and ended on 29 September. Until 2012 Brazilian municipal elections, 2012, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays there was the broadcast for candidates to city halls, 30 minutes long. The broadcasts for candidates for city councils were broadcast on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, also 30 minutes long. At least 97 cities had only one candidate for mayor in these elections. Besides that, 48.8% of the cities of the country didn't have more than two candidates. Marcelo Ribeiro Freixo () is a Brazilian politician and teacher affiliated to the Workers' Party (PT). He had served as a federal deputy for the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB), and was formerly chairman of the Defence of Human Rights and Citizenship Commission on the Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly.
