Marie Louise Milne
Marie Louise Paulette Milne (born ) is a politician in Vanuatu. In 2025, she was elected to the Parliament of Vanuatu, becoming the only woman currently serving in the country's 52-member legislature. Biography Marie Louise Milne was born around 1990. Her family is from Shefa Province's Eton village and descended from the Chief Roi Mata, and she also has Scottish French ancestry on her father's side. She is known by the nickname Malou. Milne studied at the Ecole Colardeau, graduating in 2007 with a ''baccalauréat'' in accounting and enterprise management. She is married to former Vanuatu Prime Minister Moana Carcasses Kalosil. While deputy prime minister, her husband and several other members of parliament were convicted of bribery and corruption, and he spent two years in prison. Vanuatu ( or ; ), officially the Republic of Vanuatu (; ), is an island country in Melanesia located in the South Pacific Ocean. Gloria Julia King
Gloria Julia King is a footballer, businesswoman, and politician in Vanuatu. In 2022, she was elected to the Parliament of Vanuatu, where she served until 2025. She was only the sixth woman in the country to become a member of Parliament. Biography Gloria Julia King is Ni-Vanuatu from the Vanuatuan islet of Mele. She is a former member of the Vanuatu women's national football team and represented Vanuatu at the 2003 South Pacific Games. She has since served as a football coach and manager, and as the chef de mission for the Vanuatuan delegation at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Ni-Vanuatu (informally abbreviated Ni-Van) is a large group of closely related Melanesian ethnic groups native to the island country of Vanuatu. 2024 Vanuatuan Constitutional Referendum
A constitutional referendum was held in Vanuatu on 29 May 2024, the first time a referendum has been held in the country. Voters were asked whether they approve of two proposed amendments to the Constitution of Vanuatu, constitution aimed at reducing instability within Parliament. The proposed amendments are accompanied by the passing of legislation regulating the functioning of political parties. The referendum is mandated by article 86 of the constitution, which requires that any amendments related to the electoral system or parliamentary system must be approved in a national referendum after being passed by parliament. The associated constitutional amendment bill was passed in December 2023 with 47 votes in favour and none against. Motarilavoa Hilda Lin̄i (7 September 1954 – 25 May 2025) was a Ni-Vanuatu politician, a tribal chief of the Turaga nation of Pentecost Island in Vanuatu in the South Pacific, who was associated with the nuclear-free Pacific movement, women's rights, indigenous rights and environmental issues. Life and career Lin̄i was born on 7 September 1954. An alumna of the University of Papua New Guinea, following Vanuatu's independence in 1980, she became one of the first two women elected to the Parliament of Vanuatu, in 1987. She served as member of parliament until 1996. Efate
Efate (), also known as Île Vate (), is an island in the Pacific Ocean which is part of the Shefa Province in Vanuatu. Geography It is the most populous (approx. 66,000) island in Vanuatu.
