Marie Halvey
Marie Halvey (1895–1967) was an American film editor known for her work during the late 1920s and early 1930s. Early Life Halvey was born in Chicago, Illinois, to John Halvey and Sarah Casey. In the early 1920s, she moved to Los Angeles with her sister Geraldine, who later became Hal Roach bathing girl and wife of stuntman Leo Nomis. Halvey began her career in the film industry as a stenographer, working for Archie Mayo at Samuel Goldwyn Studio. She eventually worked her way into a continuity role and finally an editing role, working on a string of Herbert Brenon films. As her career progressed, she also worked as a script girl for directors like Ernst Lubitsch and H.C. Potter. Hal Roach
Harold Eugene "Hal" Roach Sr. Skretvedt, Randy (2016), ''Laurel and Hardy: The Magic Behind the Movies'', Bonaventure Press. p.608. (January 14, 1892 – November 2, 1992) was an American film and television producer, director and screenwriter, who was the founder of the namesake Hal Roach Studios. Roach was active in the industry from the 1910s to the 1990s. He is known for producing a number of early Media franchise successes, including the Laurel and Hardy franchise, Harold Lloyd's early films, the films of entertainer Charley Chase, and the ''Our Gang'' short film comedy series. Archibald L. Mayo (January 29, 1891 – December 4, 1968) was a film director, screenwriter and actor. Early years The son of a tailor, Mayo was born in New York City. After attending the city's public schools, he studied at Columbia University. Film Mayo moved to Hollywood in 1915 and began working as a director in 1917. His films include ''Is Everybody Happy? Samuel Goldwyn Studio was the name that Samuel Goldwyn used to refer to the lot located on the corner of Formosa Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, California, as well as the offices and stages that his company, Samuel Goldwyn Productions, rented there during the 1920s and 1930s. Originally, the location was the home to the Pickford–Fairbanks Studios, the United Artists Studio, and Warner Hollywood Studios, and its name since 2007, The Lot at Formosa. Herbert Brenon (born Alexander Herbert Reginald St. John Brenon; 13 January 1880 – 21 June 1958) was an Irish-born U.S. film director, actor and screenwriter during the era of Silent film, silent films through 1940. Brenon was among the early filmmakers who, before the rise of corporate film production, was a genuine "auteur", controlling virtually all creative and technical components in crafting his pictures. The quality of Brenon's artistic output rivaled that of film pioneer D. W. Griffith. Bachelor Apartment is a 1931 American pre-Code romance film directed by and starring Lowell Sherman as a bachelor/playboy, Wayne Carter, who falls in love with Irene Dunne's honest working girl, Helene Andrews. The credits for the film, and all sources from that time show that the film was based on a story by New York playwright John Howard Lawson, the screenplay was adapted by J. Walter Ruben. However, Lawson would later claim that the final screenplay had not been altered from what he had originally written. ''Beau Ideal'' is a 1931 American Pre-Code Hollywood, pre-Code adventure film directed by Herbert Brenon and released by RKO Radio Pictures. The film was based on the 1927 adventure novel ''Beau Ideal (novel), Beau Ideal'' by P. C. Wren, the third novel in a series of five novels based around the same characters. Brenon had directed the first in the series, ''Beau Geste (1926 film), Beau Geste'', which was a very successful silent film in 1926. The screenplay was adapted from Wren's novel by Paul Schofield (screenwriter), Paul Schofield, who had also written the screenplay for the 1926 ''Beau Geste'', with contributions from Elizabeth Meehan and Marie Halvey.
