Marie-Lynn Hammond
Marie-Lynn Hammond (born August 31, 1948) is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter, broadcaster and playwright. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to a Franco-Ontarian mother and an Anglo-Quebecer father, she is fluently bilingual and writes and performs material in both English and French. She began her career as a founder of the folk music group Stringband, and later pursued a solo career. She was also a host of programming on CBC Radio in the 1980s and 1990s, including '' Dayshift'' and '' Musical Friends''. She has also written several plays, including the bilingual musical ''Beautiful Deeds/De beaux gestes'' and the drama ''White Weddings'',"A spunky play for the age". Michael John Ford is a Canadian singer-songwriter, and a former member of Toronto band Moxy Früvous. Solo career In 2004, Ford released ''Stars Shone on Toronto'', his first solo album. ''Canada Needs You'', his second solo album, was released in 2005, and was nominated for a Juno Award in Canada. It is an album that focuses on Canadian history, ranging from the earliest European contacts with First Nations to the settlement of the Prairie provinces. Ford's third album, ''Satellite Hot Stove'', an eight-song follow-up to ''Stars Shone on Toronto'', was released in 2007. ''Canada Needs You Volume Two'', the follow-up to the 2005 album, was released in June 2008. The sequel focused on events in Canadian history from World War I to the protests at Clayoquot Sound. Jian Ghomeshi
Jian Ghomeshi (born June 9, 1967) is a Canadian broadcaster, writer, musician, producer and former CBC personality. From 1990 to 2000, he was a vocalist and drummer in the Thornhill-based folk-pop band Moxy Früvous. In the 2000s, he became a television and radio broadcaster. He hosted, among others, the CBC Newsworld program ''Play'' (2002–2005), the CBC Radio One program '' The National Playlist'' (2005–2006), and the CBC Radio One program '' Q'', which he co-created and hosted from 2007 to 2014. Ghomeshi was fired by the CBC in 2014, as allegations of sexual assault and sexual harassment came out, for which he was eventually arrested. In late 2015, Ghomeshi pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his trial began in early 2016. Rick Salutin (born August 30, 1942) is a Canadian novelist, playwright, journalist, and critic and has been writing for more than forty years. Until October 1, 2010, he wrote a regular column in ''The Globe and Mail''; on February 11, 2011, he began a weekly column in the ''Toronto Star''. He is a contributing editor of ''This Magazine''. Donald James Ross (born November 19, 1960) is a Canadian fingerstyle guitarist. He was the first person to win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship twice (1988 and 1996). Sylvia Tyson, (''née'' Fricker; born 19 September 1940) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician and broadcaster. She is best known as part of the folk duo Ian & Sylvia, with Ian Tyson. Since 1993, she has been a member of the all-female folk group Quartette. Early life Tyson was born Sylvia Fricker in Chatham, Ontario, the second of four children. Garnet Rogers (born May 1955) is a Canadian folk musician, singer, songwriter and composer. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario with Maritime roots. Early life Rogers was born in Hamilton, Ontario to Nathan Allison Rogers and Valerie (née Bushell) Rogers, who had moved to Ontario from Nova Scotia to find work.
