Mariano Latorre
Mariano Lautaro Latorre Court (4 January 1886 – 10 November 1955) was a Chilean writer of Basque people, Basque descent. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1944. Cobquecura
Cobquecura is a commune in the Region of Ñuble (Spanish: ''comuna'') in the Province of Itata Chile's Region of Ñuble. The town is located on the northwest Pacific coast of the Itata Province about southwest of the national capital of Santiago. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Cobquecura spans an area of and has 5,687 inhabitants (3,032 men and 2,655 women). Of these, 1,493 (26.3%) lived in urban areas and 4,194 (73.7%) in rural areas. Between the 1992 and 2002 censuses, the population fell by 9.1% (570 persons). Administration As a commune, Cobquecura is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a municipal council, headed by an alcalde who is directly elected every four years. Mirella Latorre Blanco (26 March 1919 – 10 June 2010) was a Chilean radio and television actress. Biography The daughter of Mariano Latorre – a famous writer, father of ''criollismo'' in Chile, and National Prize for Literature winner – and Virginia Blanco, Mirella Latorre became famous in the 1940s thanks to radio dramas, fame that was consolidated with her move to television at the beginning of the 1960s. She had two children with her first husband, , the founder of the Chilean Journalists Association. Her second husband was also a journalist, , who died on 11 September 1973 at La Moneda Palace during the coup d'état led by General Augusto Pinochet against the socialist Salvador Allende. Mirella Latorre had to go into exile; she traveled first to France and then to Cuba, where she worked in television.
