Marian Carr
Marian Carr (born Marion Dorice Dunn; July 6, 1926July 30, 2003), sometimes credited as Marion Carr, was an American actress who appeared in a number of films in the late 1940s through the 1950s. Biography Carr was born July 6, 1926, in Providence, Kentucky. In her adolescence, she relocated with her family to Chicago, Illinois, where she attended Austin High School. After graduating high school, Carr worked in an office as well as taking jobs modeling in Chicago. She was spotted by a talent scout and was named "Chicago's Prettiest Office Worker" in 1946. Following this, Carr relocated Los Angeles, where she began acting in local theater productions. She subsequently signed a film contract with RKO Pictures in 1946 under Howard Hughes. She made her feature film debut in ''San Quentin'' (1946), followed by a minor part in Frank Capra's 1946 '' It's a Wonderful Life''. Providence is a home rule-class city in Webster County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 3,193 at the time of the 2010 United States Census, making the most populous community in the county. History In 1820, Richard B. Savage arrived from Virginia with his wife and his elder sister Mary (Savage) Settler, and opened a general store on the site of the present city. The community that grew up was known as Savageville, until the post office was established in 1828, when it was renamed "Providence". Film noir (; ) is a style of Cinema of the United States, Hollywood Crime film, crime dramas that emphasizes cynicism (contemporary), cynical attitudes and motivations. The 1940s and 1950s are generally regarded as the "classic period" of American film noir. Film noir of this era is associated with a low-key lighting, low-key, black-and-white visual style that has roots in German expressionist cinematography. Many of the prototypical stories and attitudes expressed in classic noir derive from the hardboiled school of crime fiction that emerged in the United States during the Great Depression, known as noir fiction. ''Schlitz Playhouse of Stars'' is an anthology series that was telecast from 1951 until 1959 on CBS. Offering both comedies and drama, the series was sponsored by the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company. The title was shortened to ''Schlitz Playhouse'' beginning with the fall 1957 season. ''Four Star Playhouse'' (syndicated as Star Performance) is an American anthology series that ran from September 25, 1952, through September 27, 1956. Overview Four Star Playhouse was owned by Four Star International. Its episodes ranged anywhere from surreal mysteries, such as "The Man on the Train", to light comedies, such as "The Lost Silk Hat". The original premise for the program was that Charles Boyer, Dick Powell, Rosalind Russell, and Joel McCrea would rotate as stars of episodes. By the time it debuted, David Niven and Ida Lupino had replaced McCrea and Russell. In addition to those four stars, other performers, including Ronald Colman, Joan Fontaine, Frank Lovejoy, Merle Oberon, and Teresa Wright occasionally had leading roles. ''China Smith'' is a 30-minute American syndicated television adventure series starring Dan Duryea. It is set in Singapore. It was released in the fall of 1952. The program's alternate title was ''The Affairs of China Smith'', and the last 26 episodes were syndicated with the title ''The New Adventures of China Smith''. The series' pilot was shown as ''Souvenir from Singapore'', an episode of ''Schlitz Playhouse of Stars'' aired on June 6, 1952. Premise The title character was a soldier of fortune, "an opportunistic con artist and sometimes private eye" who sought adventure. Episodes had Smith confronting characters who ranged from Communists to "bigger crooks than he was." He often helped people who were innocent but somehow were entangled with villains.
