Maria Udrea
Maria Ruxandra Udrea (born 23 Novembre 1990) is a Romanian épée fencer. She won a team silver medal in the 2013 European Fencing Championships in Zagreb and a bronze medal in the 2013 World Fencing Championships in Budapest. Biography Udrea's first sports were swimming and tennis. She discovered fencing at the age of seven at Olimpia Bucharest, and took to the sport. She first competed in foil. In this weapon, she won a silver medal in the 2008 Cadet European Championships at Novi Sad, a gold medal in the Junior World Cup in 2009, a bronze medal in the Junior European Championships at Odense that same year, and a silver medal in the 2010 Romanian Championship. In the 2008–09 season, she joined the national senior team, which placed 4th in the World Championships in Antalya after being defeated by Italy in the semi-final, then by Germany in the match for the bronze medal. Rossella Fiamingo (born 14 July 1991) is an Italian left-handed épée fencer and two-time individual world champion. A three-time Olympian, Fiamingo is a 2021 and 2024 team Olympic bronze and Gold, respectively, medalist and 2016 individual Olympic silver medalist. She is engaged to the Olympic gold medal swimmer Gregorio Paltrinieri. Career Fiamingo did ballet and rhythmic gymnastics as a child. She took up fencing when she was seven at the instigation of her father, who already drove her brother to a nearby fencing school, AS Methodos Catania. Amalia Tătăran
Amalia Tătăran (born 15 July 1994 in Satu Mare) is a Romanian épée fencer, team silver medallist at the 2013 European Fencing Championships and team gold medallist at the 2015 European Games. Career Tătăran took up fencing at the age of 9 in Satu Mare, a Romanian fencing stronghold, under the guidance of coach Francisc Csiszar. Simona Pop née Deac (born 25 December 1988) is a retired Romanian épée fencer, bronze medallist at the 2015 European Championships, team silver medallist in the 2015 World Fencing Championships and team European champion in 2014 and 2015. Personal life Pop was born in Satu Mare to a Hungarian father and Romanian mother. Pop took up fencing at CS Satu Mare, one of the main fencing centres in Romania, under the coaching of Francisc Csiszar who went on to train her for twelve years. Romanian Fencing Federation
The Romanian Fencing Federation () is the governing body for the sport of fencing in Romania. Affiliated to the International Fencing Federation since 1914, it is a member of the European Fencing Confederation and of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the federation had 1238 fencers in 2011. Its budget, granted by the Ministry of Youth and Sport, grew from 2.5 million lei in 2012 to 3 million lei in 2014. As of 2014, 45 clubs are affiliated to the federation.
