Maria Hupfield
Maria Hupfield (born 1975) is a Canadian artist, working in Brooklyn, New York. She is an Anishinaabe, specifically an Ojibwe and a member of the Wasauksing First Nation, located in Ontario, Canada. Hupfield works in a variety of media, including video and performance. Her performance practice references Anishinaabeg oral history and feminist performance history. Early life and education Hupfield grew up in Parry Sound, Ontario. She holds a BA in art history with a minor in native studies from the University of Toronto, and received an MFA from York University. Career ''The One Who Keeps On Giving'', a 2017 solo exhibition of her work at The Power Plant in Toronto was called a "triumphal homecoming" by Murray Whyte of the ''Toronto Star.'' A woman is an adult female human. Prior to adulthood, a female human is referred to as a girl (a female child or adolescent). Emily Carr University of Art + Design (abbreviated as ECU) is a public art university located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The university's campus is located within the Great Northern Way Campus in Strathcona. Native Art Department International
Native Art Department International (NADI) is a Toronto-based collaborative project of wife-and-husband pair of artists Maria Hupfield (b. 1975) and Jason Lujan (b. 1971). Together they curate group exhibitions in which they sometimes show and for which they often make work together. They see this as a way to counter the pigeonholing of contemporary art by Native Americans and people of First Nations descent. ''Artforum'' critic Gabrielle Moser has also written about the duo's "commitment to artistic camaraderie, decolonial politics, and non-competition."
