Maria Barreira
Maria Gonçalves Barreira (1914–2010) was a Portuguese sculptor, ceramicist, and teacher who was banned from teaching for 16 years by the '' Estado Novo'' dictatorship for her political activism. Early life and training Barreira was born in Lisbon on 7 December 1914. She had originally hoped to be a doctor but in 1937 enrolled for the painting course at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts (ESBAL). After the first year she changed to the sculpture course. She later temporarily abandoned her studies to dedicate herself to anti-dictatorship activities, joining the ''Associação Feminina Portuguesa para a Paz'' (Portuguese Women's Association for Peace – AFPP) and the ''Movimento de Unidade Democrática'' (Movement of Democratic Unity – MUD). In 1951 she graduated in pedagogical sciences from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon, having realised that she could not live from sculpture alone. Henry Moore
Henry Spencer Moore (30 July 1898 – 31 August 1986) was an English artist. He is best known for his semi-abstract art, abstract monumental Bronze sculpture, bronze sculptures which are located around the world as public works of art. Moore also produced many drawings, including a series depicting Londoners sheltering from the Blitz during the World War II, Second World War, along with other graphic works on paper. His forms are usually abstractions of the human figure, typically depicting mother-and-child or reclining figures. Moore's works are usually suggestive of the female body, apart from a phase in the 1950s when he sculpted family groups. His forms are generally pierced or contain hollow spaces. Mirandela (), officially the City of Mirandela (), is a city and a municipality in northeastern Portugal. The city itself is contained by the Mirandela parish, which had a population of 11,397. Vila Franca de Xira (), officially the City of Vila Franca de Xira (), is a city and municipality in the Lisbon District in Portugal. The population in 2021 was 137,659, in an area of 318.19 km2. Nazaré () is a Portugal, Portuguese town and municipality located in the Oeste Subregion, Oeste region, in the historical province of Estremadura Province (1936-1976), Estremadura, and in the Leiria District.
