Maria Anna Jarochowska
Maria Anna Jarochowska-de Kosko (February 4, 1924 – June 29, 2018) was a Polish-born Canadian geographer and historian. She was a researcher of Polish emigration in Canada and specialized in the contributions of Polish Canadians to Canada. Biography Maria Anna Jarochowska was born February 4, 1924 in Silesia. She studied political economy at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, and in 1950 she defended her master's thesis there. At the same time, from 1946 she worked in a bank before moving to an economic planning office. In 1950 she started working in the library of the Poznań University of Economics, from 1953 to 1957, and she studied librarianship at the Jagiellonian University while conducting research on Polish emigration in Canada. In 1960, her publication ''Canada, Kraj i Ludzie'' (In English: ''(Canada, the Country and Its People),'' was published, for which she received a scholarship from the Canada Council for one-year postgraduate studies. The Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland () is a Polish order of merit created in 1974, awarded to persons who have rendered great service to Poland. It is granted to foreigners or Poles resident abroad. As such, it is sometimes referred to as a traditional "diplomatic order". History The order was established by an act of 10 April 1974, as the Order of Merit of the Polish People's Republic (''Order Zasługi Polskiej Rzeczypospolitej Ludowej''). The need for the new order had arisen since the Order of the White Eagle had fallen into disuse after the foundation of the People's Republic. Reflecting this history, the two orders utilized similar colors and designs. Krzysztof Olendzki
Krzysztof Jan Olendzki (born 2 July 1963 in Bystrzyca Kłodzka) is a Polish diplomat; ambassador to Tunisia (2008–2012) and Slovenia (2020–2024). Life Olendzki graduated from history at the University of Warsaw (1987). He has been studying also at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1995, he defended his Ph.D. thesis at the Scuola Superiore di Studi Storici di San Marino. From 1987 to 1988 and from 1997 to 1999 he was working for the Polish Scientific Publishers PWN, where he was editor of the English-language publication ''Poland. An Encyclopedic Guide''. White Rock, British Columbia
White Rock is a city in British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. It is bordered by Semiahmoo Bay to the south and is surrounded on three sides by Surrey, British Columbia, Surrey. To the southeast across a footbridge lies the Semiahmoo First Nation, which is within the borders of Surrey. Semiahmoo Bay and the Southern Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia are also to the south. White Rock is named for a large white boulder on its beach near the promenade, a glacial erratic that migrated south during the last glaciation. The 486-ton granite boulder was kept white by shellfish-eating seabirds whose guano covered the rock so much that 19th-century sailors used it as a beacon.
