Margit Schiøtt
Margit Schiøtt, née Knudsen (2 May 1889 – 16 September 1946) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. She was born in Gjerpen, a daughter of the Norwegian Prime Minister Gunnar Knudsen. Her husband was dr. ing. Didrik Cappelen Schiøtt (1887–1958) and they lived at Gulset in Skien, Norway, where they also owned a little farm. They had no children. She was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Telemark in 1945, but less than one year into the term she died and was replaced by Ketil Skogen. Liberal Party Of Norway
The Liberal Party (, , V; ) is a social liberal political party in Norway. It was founded in 1884 and is the oldest political party in Norway. Despite its native name, the Liberal Party is positioned in the centre on the political spectrum, and usually cooperates much more with the right wing parties. It is a liberal party which has over the time enacted reforms such as parliamentarism, freedom of religion, universal suffrage, and state schooling. For most of the late 19th and early 20th century, it was Norway's largest and dominant political party, but in the postwar era it lost most of its support and became a relatively small party. The party has nevertheless participated in several centrist and centre-right government coalitions in the postwar era. It currently holds eight seats in the Parliament, and was previously a part of Norway's government together with the Conservative Party and the Christian Democratic Party. Gjerpen
Gjerpen is a former municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. The area is now part of Skien Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Gjerpen, which is now part of the growing town of Skien. Gjerpen Church was the main church for the municipality. History The parish of Gjerpen was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). According to the 1835 census the municipality had a population of 4,381. Gjerpen was located east of the town of Skien. It encompassed districts such as Borgestad, Bøle, Gulset, and Luksefjell. Gunnar Knudsen
Gunnar Knudsen (19 September 1848 – 1 December 1928), born Aanon Gunerius Knudsen, was a Norwegian politician from the Liberal Party who served as the prime minister of Norway twice from 1908 to 1910 and from 1913 to 1920. He also inherited a shipping company, and founded the shipping company Borgestad ASA. Early life and education Knudsen was born in 1848 at the medium-sized farm Saltrød at Stokken (now Arendal) in Aust-Agder. Norway. His father Christen Knudsen (1813–1888) was a sea captain and ship-owner, whose ancestors had lived at the farm for several generations. His mother Guro Aadnesdatter (1808–1900) had grown up at one of the smaller farms in Saltrød which her father which hailed from Vegusdal had bought. Cappelen (family)
Cappelen is a Norwegian family of German origin. Johan von Cappelen immigrated to Norway in 1653 and became bailiff in Lier. A number of his descendants were businessmen, land owners, civil servants and politicians. The family is especially known for the former publishing company J.W. Cappelens Forlag, one of the oldest publishing houses of Norway. Variants of the name ''Cappelen'' are also used throughout Germany by many other families. Telemark
Telemark () is a Counties of Norway, county and a current electoral district in Norway. Telemark borders the counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Vestland, Rogaland and Agder. In 2020, Telemark merged with the county of Vestfold to form the county of Vestfold og Telemark. On 1 January 2024, the county of Telemark was re-established after Vestfold og Telemark was divided again. Ketil Skogen
Ketil Skogen (26 August 1884 – 21 March 1970) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. He was born in Saude. He was educated as jurist from the University of Oslo from 1909. He was the first to write his exam in Norwegian language (nynorsk) which at that time were not allowed and paid a heavy price for that, but passed due to his brilliant performance. He was prosecutor in the last impeachment case in Norway against the government of Berge in 1926. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Telemark in 1925, and served five terms in the position of deputy representative: 1919–1921, 1928–1930, 1931–1933, 1945–1949 and 1950–1953. During his fourth and fifth terms as deputy representative he sat through parts of the term as a regular representative, replacing the deceased Margit Schiøtt and Neri Valen respectively.
