Mariano Martinez (entrepreneur)
Mariano Martinez (born 1944) is an American inventor, entrepreneur, restaurateur, and creative artist. In Dallas, Texas, in 1971, he adapted a slurpee machine to making margaritas and dubbed it "The World’s First Frozen Margarita Machine". That machine is now in the collection of the National Museum of American History, part of the Smithsonian Institution. Early life Martinez was born in Dallas, Texas, in the Little Mexico neighborhood. Spanish was his first language, but when he was five years old, his family was the first Mexican-American family to move into Lakewood, Dallas, where he learned to speak English so he could attend school. Slurpee
Slurpee is the brand name for carbonated slushies sold by 7-Eleven and its subsidiaries A-Plus and Speedway. The brand first originated in 1966 when 7-Eleven made a licensing deal with The Icee Company to sell slushies in 7-Eleven stores. History Omar Knedlik invented machines to make frozen beverages in the late 1950s. The idea for a slushed ice drink came when Knedlik's soda fountain broke down, forcing him to put his sodas in a freezer to stay cool, which caused them to become slushy.
