Margaretatop
Margaretatop is a mountain in eastern Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park.Google Earth History At the time of Lauge Koch's 1949–51 expeditions this summit was named after Margareta Hediger by American geologist John Haller, a Fellow of the Geological Society of America. The peak is marked as "Margaretatopp" and "Margarita Spids" in some maps. ''Margaretasø'' is a small lake in neighboring Rendal at where the reflection of the mountain can be seen on its surface. This lake was named by John Haller after the same person. Geography Margaretatop is the highest point of Andrée Land. It is a roughly high peak that rises in the southwestern part of Andrée Land, east of the Rendal valley and northeast of the shore of the Isfjord, a northern branch of Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord. Andrée Land (Greenland)
Andrée Land is a peninsula in King Christian X Land, East Greenland that is bounded by Kejser Franz Joseph Fjord, ''Isfjord'' and ''Geologfjord''. History The peninsula was named by A.G. Nathorst on his 1899 expedition after Swedish Arctic explorer Salomon August Andrée, who had made an attempt to reach the North Pole by balloon in 1897. One of the aims of Nathorst's 1899 venture was to search for traces of the lost Andrée's Arctic Balloon Expedition, whose fate was unknown until 1930, when it became known that Andrée had crash-landed on the pack ice and died on Kvitøya. The region was later visited and accurately mapped during Lauge Koch's expeditions to East Greenland. Geography Andrée Land is located about 100 km inland from the Foster Bay of the Greenland Sea. Isfjord
Isfjord, meaning 'Ice Fjord' in the Danish language, is a fjord in King Christian X Land, eastern Greenland. The Isfjord is part of the Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord complex''Prostar Sailing Directions 2005 Greenland and Iceland Enroute'', p. 120 in the area of the Northeast Greenland National Park. Geography The Jaette Glacier in the west and the Gerard de Geer Glacier in the north flow into the head of the Isfjord. Louise Boyd Land rises at the fjord's western end between the two glaciers. This tributary fjord extends between high mountains in a northwest–southeast direction for about 50 km until its mouth in the Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord at the southern end. To the northeast the fjord is bound by Andrée Land and to the south and southwest by Frænkel Land. Northeast Greenland National Park
Northeast Greenland National Park (, ) is the world's largest national park and the 10th largest protected area (the only larger protected areas consist mostly of sea). Established in 1974, the Northeast Greenland national park expanded to its present size in 1988. It protects of the interior and northeastern coast of Greenland and is larger than the area of Tanzania, but smaller than that of Egypt. This means that the national park is bigger than 166 of the world's 195 countries. It was the first national park to be created in the Kingdom of Denmark and remains Greenland's only national park. Google Earth is a web mapping, web and computer program created by Google that renders a 3D computer graphics, 3D representation of Earth based primarily on satellite imagery. Lauge Koch
Lauge Koch (5 July 1892 – 5 June 1964) was a Danish geologist and Arctic explorer. Biography Lauge Koch was born in 1892 to Karl and Elisabeth Koch. His development as a scientist was greatly influenced by his father's second cousin Johan Peter Koch - a polar explorer, a member of several Greenland expeditions, including Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen's and Alfred Wegener's (in the latter's expedition (1912-1913) to cross Greenland, he led a sledging party). The Geological Society of America (GSA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of the geosciences. Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord (; ) is the northernmost fjord system in the NE Greenland National Park area, East Greenland. Geography The Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord has its mouth in the Foster Bay of the Greenland Sea, between Cape Mackenzie at the eastern end of Geographical Society Island and Cape Franklin, the southern end of the mainland's Gauss Peninsula; Bontekoe Island lies in the bay off its mouth.
