Margaret Markey
Margaret M. Markey (born November 4, 1941) is an American politician who formerly represented District 30 in the New York State Assembly, which is made up of Maspeth and Woodside, as well as portions of Middle Village, Astoria, Sunnyside and Long Island City. She is a Democrat. Career A graduate of Berkeley Business School, Markey began in public service as the assistant director of economic development for former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman, later becoming the borough's director of marketing and tourism. She was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 1998. She is the current chairwoman of the Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development; as well as previously holding the position of president of the Irish American Legislators Society. In 2009, a controversial bill presented by Markey sought to tackle sex abuse cases in private schools. New York's 30th State Assembly District
New York's 30th State Assembly district is one of the 150 districts in the New York State Assembly in the United States. It has been represented by Democrat Steven Raga since 2023, replacing Brian Barnwell. Geography 2020s Due to the growing Asian population on Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and Woodside, the new 30th district was drawn to be an Asian majority district, comprising the neighborhoods of Woodside, Elmhurst, and portions of Maspeth, Astoria, Jackson Heights, and Middle Village. Joseph Crowley
Joseph Crowley (born March 16, 1962) is an American former politician who served as U.S. Representative from New York's 14th congressional district from 1999 to 2019. He was defeated by Democratic primary challenger Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in what was viewed as one of the biggest upsets of the 2018 midterm elections. During his tenure, Crowley served as Chair of the House Democratic Caucus from 2017 to 2019, as well as the local chairman of the Queens County Democratic Party from 2006 to 2019. He previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1987 to 1998. After leaving Congress, he joined the Washington, D.C. lobbying and law firm Squire Patton Boggs.
