Marea ( Ancient Egyptian: ; Ancient Greek: , , ; Latin: ) was an ancient city in Egypt, located 45 km south-west of Alexandria, on the southern shore of Lake Maryut (ancient , ). History The pharaoh Psamtik I installed a garrison at Marea in 654 BCE to secure the western borders of his kingdom after he had previously defeated the Libyan tribes living in the area who had taken over the Oxyrhynchite nome of Lower Egypt. Archaeological research In 1977–1981, archaeological excavations were conducted by researchers from the University of Alexandria. Since 2000, the work is carried out by a Polish expedition from several scientific institutions, including the Archaeological Museum of Kraków and the Institute of Archaeology and the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology (both University of Warsaw). Mare'
Mare' ( ar, مارع ''Māriʿ'', locally pronounced ''Mēreʿ''), also spelled Marea, is a town in northern Aleppo Governorate, northwestern Syria. It is the largest town and administrative centre of the Mare' nahiyah in the Azaz District. Located some 25 kilometers north of the city of Aleppo, the town has a population of 16,904 as per the 2004 census. Nearby localities include Shaykh Issa and Tell Rifaat to the west, A'zaz to the northwest, Dabiq to the northeast, al-Bab to the southeast, and Maarat Umm Hawsh and Herbel to the south. Syrian Civil War Mare' was affected by the ongoing Syrian uprising against the government of Bashar al-Assad. Marea are a Spanish rock band from Berriozar, Navarre formed in 1997 by Kutxi Romero. The band deals with lyrics influenced by Spanish folklore and literature using archaic terms and expressions. They have released eight studio albums, a collection boxset and a live album. History In 1997, after having been a member of 9 different punk bands, Kutxi Romero decided to form a rock group. He called Alen Ayerdi - former drummer of Begira - who joined Kutxi's project. He then contacted Edu Beaumont "Piñas", whom he had met one year before. Piñas had not previously played in any other band, but Kutxi - who was a very good friend of his - persuaded him to join as bassist. Piñas accepted and introduced Kutxi to César Ramallo, who would become one of Marea's guitarists. David Díaz, aka Kolibrí, also a guitarist, also joined the band. Lake Mariout ( ar, بحيرة مريوط ', , also spelled Maryut or Mariut), is a brackish lake in northern Egypt near the city of Alexandria. The lake area covered and had a navigable canal at the beginning of the 20th century, but at the beginning of the 21st century, it covers only about . Etymology The name of Lake Mariout derives from the Hellenized name of Mareotis ( grc, Μαρεῶτις) or Marea, which was named in the Ptolemic Period. Overview In antiquity, the lake was much larger than it is now, extending further to the south and west and occupying around . It had no mouth connecting it to the Mediterranean, being fed with Nile water via a number of canals. The Fiat Marea (Type 185) is a small family car available as a saloon and an estate, produced by the Italian automaker Fiat. Launched in September 1996, the Marea models were essentially different body styles of Fiat's hatchback offerings, the Bravo and Brava. The Marea replaced the earlier Tipo based Fiat Tempra, as well as the larger Croma. While the Fiat Stilo Multiwagon was the successor of the wagon version, the ''Marea Weekend'', the Fiat Linea replaced the saloon version in 2007.
