Marcy-Holmes
Marcy-Holmes is a Neighborhoods of Minneapolis, neighborhood in the University, Minneapolis, University community of Minneapolis. The majority of the area is residential and sits upon a bluff overlooking the river and the city skyline. A small section of the neighborhood along the river is an industrial zone. The neighborhood is bordered on the south by the Mississippi River, to the east by the University of Minnesota and 15th Avenue Southeast, to the north by the railroad tracks that separate it from Como, Minneapolis, Como Neighborhood, and to the west by Central Avenue. Although somewhat confusing to newcomers, the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood is considered part of Southeast Minneapolis, despite its seemingly centralized location within the city today. Minneapolis is officially defined by its city council as divided into 83 neighborhoods. The neighborhoods are historically grouped into 11 communities. Informally, there are city areas with colloquial labels. Residents may also group themselves by their city street suffixes: North, Northeast, South, and Southeast. Dinkytown
Dinkytown is a commercial district within the Marcy-Holmes, Minneapolis, Marcy-Holmes neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Centered at 14th Avenue Southeast and 4th Street Southeast, the district contains several city blocks occupied by various small businesses, restaurants, bars, and apartment buildings that house mostly University of Minnesota students. Dinkytown is along the North side of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities East Bank campus. University, Minneapolis
University is a community in Minneapolis. It is composed of seven smaller neighborhoods. It also contains the University of Minnesota campus. Most of the community is commonly referred to as Southeast Minneapolis due street names with a SE suffix. The University community contains most of Minneapolis City Council Ward 2, currently represented by Robin Wonsley. It also contains pieces of Wards 1, 3, and 6, represented by Elliott Payne, Michael Rainville, and Jamal Osman, respectively. Como, Minneapolis
Como is a neighborhood within the Southeast quadrant of Minneapolis. The neighborhood is also sometimes referred to as Southeast Como to help differentiate it from the Como Park neighborhood in neighboring Saint Paul. Its boundaries are East Hennepin Avenue to the north, 33rd Avenue Southeast (the eastern city limit) to the east, the Southeast Industrial Area to the south, and Interstate 35W to the west. Como is also part of the University District in Minneapolis, with its location near the main Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota. Mississippi River
The Mississippi River is the main stem, primary river of the largest drainage basin in the United States. It is the second-longest river in the United States, behind only the Missouri River, Missouri. Saint Anthony Main
Saint Anthony Main is a stretch of buildings on Main Street across from Saint Anthony Falls in the Marcy-Holmes and Nicollet Island/East Bank neighborhoods of Minneapolis. The area is part of Southeast, Minneapolis, as it was originally the Main Street through the township of St. Anthony, Minnesota prior to most of that township's annexation in 1872. It opened as a festival marketplace in the 1980s. In 1968, Architect Peter Nelson Hall purchased Pracna, which at the time was a machine shop, revitalized it back into a restaurant, and brought a focus in Minneapolis back to the Riverfront. This started a revitalization movement on Main Street. The area underwent a resurgence during the condominium boom in the early 2000s with several condo projects built in and around the area. The Minnesota Legislature is the bicameral legislature of the U.S. state of Minnesota consisting of two houses: the Senate and the House of Representatives. Senators are elected from 67 single-member districts. In order to account for decennial redistricting, members run for one two-year term and two four-year terms each decade. They are elected for four-year terms in years ending in 2 and 6, and for two-year terms in years ending in 0. Asian American
Asian Americans are Americans with ancestry from the continent of Asia (including naturalized Americans who are immigrants from specific regions in Asia and descendants of those immigrants). Although this term had historically been used for all the indigenous peoples of the continent of Asia, the usage of the term "Asian" by the United States Census Bureau denotes a racial category that includes people with origins or ancestry from East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia.
