Marcus Roberto
Marcus Aurelius Roberto (November 26, 1930 – February 24, 1986), a Democrat, was a member of the Ohio General Assembly. Roberto initially won a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives in 1970, replacing Anice Johnson, and won reelection in 1972 and 1974. However, Roberto sought to move up to the Ohio Senate in 1976. Challenging David W. Johnson, Roberto won, and took his seat in the Senate in 1977. He was reelected in 1980. Kenneth Cox
Kenneth R. Cox (born October 8, 1928) is an Ohio Democratic Party (United States), Democratic politician and a former member of the Ohio General Assembly. Life Born in Ohio in 1928, Cox attended the University of Akron. He was serving as mayor of Barberton, Ohio, when he opted to run for an open seat in the Ohio House of Representatives in 1972. He ended up being reelected in 1974. In 1976, Senator David Headley (politician), David Headley announced his retirement, and Cox won election to his Ohio Senate seat. In 1982, Cox considered a run for Ohio Treasurer, and eventually entered the race. However, he lost the primary nomination. While defeated in the treasurer's election, new Ohio Governor Dick Celeste announced soon after that he would appoint Cox as the Director for the Department of Public Safety. Dennis Eckart
Dennis Edward Eckart (born April 6, 1950) is an American lawyer and politician who is a former member of the United States House of Representatives. Eckart, a member of the Democratic Party, represented Ohio's 11th congressional district from 1983 to 1993, and Ohio's 22nd congressional district from 1981 to 1983. Before being elected to Congress, Eckart served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1975 to 1980. The Ohio Senate is the upper house of the Ohio General Assembly. The State Senate, which meets in the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, first convened in 1803. Senators are elected for four year terms, staggered every two years such that half of the seats are contested at each election. Bob Nettle
Robert Dale Nettle (January 19, 1924 – October 3, 2019) was an American politician who served as a member of the Ohio General Assembly. He was also a member of the Barberton City Council for a number of years. Originally elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1976, Nettle went on to serve five terms in the lower chamber. In 1986, following the death of Senator Marcus Roberto, Nettle was chosen by Senate Democrats for an appointment to his seat. He went on to win election to the remaining two years of Roberto's term in 1986. He won election to a full term in 1988. By 1990, Nettle was serving as minority whip. However, after his reelection in 1992, he became assistant minority whip. In 1995, midway through his third term in the Senate, Nettle announced he would retire. He resigned on March 31, 1995, citing health concerns. Ultimately, after much debate, he was replaced by Leigh Herington.
