Marcos Churio
Marcos Churio (born 4 October 1900) was an Argentine professional golfer. Churio was born in Mar del Plata. He turned professional in 1920, and competed in Europe between 1931 and 1939, where his best tournament finish was 5th place in the 1931 Southport Open in England. That year, he was 7th in the British Open at Carnoustie. Churio's brother, Pedro, won several tournaments in Argentina and later designed many golf courses. His nephew, Martin Pose, won the French Open in 1939. Churio won the Argentine Open in three decades, in 1926, 1934 and 1943. He also finished runner-up on six occasions, in 1928, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1936 and 1937. The Great Britain–Argentina Professional Match was a men's team golf competition between teams of six professional golfers from Great Britain and Argentina. It was played on the Lady Dorothy Course at Temple Newsam Golf Club on Monday 5 June 1939, just before the Yorkshire Evening News Tournament which started the following day. The match resulted in a 5–3 victory for the British team with one match halved. Background A team of six golfers from Argentine visited Europe in the summer of 1939, under the auspices of the Argentine Golf Association. The team was accompanied by Juan Dentone and Armando Blasi. The Coast Open, or Abierto del Litoral, is a golf tournament played in Argentina. Founded in 1932 as the Torneo de Profesionales (Professional Tournament), a name only used for the first two editions, it has always been played at the Rosario Golf Club in Rosario, Santa Fe. The tournament has been a fixture on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica Developmental Series. It was previously an annual stop on the higher level Tour de las Américas from 2000 until 2010 having been an event on that tours predecessor, the South American Tour, between 1993 and 1999. The Center Open, or Abierto del Centro, is one of the major regional open golf tournaments in Argentina. Founded in 1927, it has always been held at the Córdoba Golf Club in Córdoba. In 2001, Ángel Cabrera set the course record of 60 in the final round, and also equalled the tournament record aggregate score of 270, set by Ángel Franco in 1992. South Open
The South Open, or Abierto del Sur, is one of the major regional open golf tournaments in Argentina, and is also one of the oldest, having been inaugurated 1918. It has always been held at the Mar del Plata Golf Club in Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires Province. The course plays to a par of 70, and the course record is 59, which was set by Miguel Ángel Martín in the 1987 Open. The tournament was founded as the Abierto de Aficionados y Profesionales (the Professionals and Amateurs Open), and was renamed as the Abierto de Mar del Plata (Mar del Plata Open) in 1925, before being given its current title in 1939. The Argentine Open or Abierto de la República or Abierto de Argentina is one of the oldest national golf open championships. 1931 Open Championship
The 1931 Open Championship was the 66th Open Championship, held 3–5 June at Carnoustie Golf Links in Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland. Tommy Armour outlasted José Jurado by a single stroke to win his only Open title, and his third and final major championship. This was the first time Carnoustie hosted the championship. Qualifying took place on 1–2 June, Monday and Tuesday, with 18 holes at Carnoustie and 18 holes at Panmure Golf Club in nearby and the top 100 players and ties qualified. Macdonald Smith led the qualifiers on 141; the qualifying score was 160 and 109 players advanced. Prize money for the championship was increased to £500 with £100 for the champion, £75 for second place, £50 for third, £30 for fourth, £25 for fifth, £20 for sixth and seventh, £15 for eighth and ninth and £10 for the next 15 players. Open De France
The Open de France is a European Tour golf tournament. Inaugurated in 1906 it is the oldest national open in Continental Europe and has been part of the European Tour's schedule since the tour's inception in 1972. The 100th edition of the event was held in 2016. The 2022 edition will take place between 22 and 25 September on the Golf National course. There will be €3 million of prize fund. Last edition played was the 2019 tournament, won by Nicolas Colsaerts. Originally played at La Boulie, the tournament has been hosted by many different venues, but since 1991, it has been held at the Le Golf National near Paris every year except for 1999 and 2001. Martin Pose
Martin Pose (13 February 1911 – 1997) was an Argentine professional golfer. Pose was born in Mar del Plata. He turned professional in 1930, and competed in Europe in 1939 and 1956; and on the PGA Tour in 1940 and 1948. His best finish on the PGA Tour was 9th place in the Bing Crosby Pro-Am in 1948. In 1939, he was 8th in the British Open. In 1940, along with Enrique Bertolino, he was the first Argentine player to compete in the Masters Tournament. He also played in the U.S. Open the same year. In 1936, Pose won an exhibition match against Johnny Revolta in Buenos Aires. He was the first Argentine player to win a European tournament, the French Open 1939.
