Marcos Assunção
Marcos dos Santos Assunção (born 25 July 1976) is a Brazilian former professional footballer. A central midfielder, he was renowned as a world-class free kick specialist. Assunção played for clubs in four countries; he is best known for his spells with Roma in Italy and Real Betis in Spain. At international level, he represented Brazil on 11 occasions between 1998 and 2000, scoring a single goal; he was a member of the team that finished third at the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Club career Early years and Roma Born in Caieiras, São Paulo, Assunção began his career at Rio Branco, where he stayed two years. He then played for Santos, scoring three goals in 33 Série A games and moving to Flamengo in 1998. After impressive performances with Flamengo, Assunção was bought by Serie A's Roma for 1999–2000. Caieiras
Caieiras is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. It is part of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. The population is 102,775 (2020 est.) in an area of 97.64 km2. Due to the municipality's large reforestation area, it is known as the "City of the Pines". The municipality contains part of the Cantareira State Park, created in 1962, which protects a large part of the metropolitan São Paulo water supply. The municipality is served by CPTM Line 7 (Ruby). 1999–2000 UEFA Cup
The 1999–2000 UEFA Cup season was the 29th edition of the UEFA Cup competition. The final took place at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen and was won by Galatasaray, who defeated Arsenal in the final. The game was scoreless through the first ninety minutes and stayed that way through thirty minutes of extra time. The match went on to penalty kicks in which Gheorghe Popescu scored the winning goal to win the cup. Galatasaray won the cup without losing a single game. The competition was marred by violence involving Turkish and English hooligans in the semi-finals and the final, in particular the fatal stabbings of Leeds United fans Kevin Speight and Christopher Loftus by Galatasaray fans in Istanbul.
