Marco Cochrane
Marco Cochrane (born 1962) is an American sculptor born in Venice, Italy, best known for his large-scale steel sculptures of nude women. Early and personal life Cochrane was born in Venice to American artists and raised in Berkeley, California. When he was seven years old, a friend, then aged nine, was abducted and raped; Cochrane recalls " mom told me about it in way too much gory detail. It really shocked me," adding he was also surprised when "nobody did anything — and nobody ever talked about it again" and wondered "if he had realized she was a person, he wouldn't have done it." Hallidie Plaza is a public square located at the entrance to Powell Street Station (the third-busiest Bay Area Rapid Transit, BART station as of 2015) on Market Street (San Francisco), Market Street in the Union Square, San Francisco, Union Square area of downtown San Francisco, California, United States. R-Evolution (Cochrane)
''R-Evolution'' is the third and final sculpture in Marco Cochrane's series, ''The Bliss Project''. The work debuted at Burning Man in 2015, and was installed in Embarcadero Plaza in San Francisco in April of 2025. Description and history The tall, ''R-Evolution'' sculpture is standing in a tadasana pose. In December 2016, activists applied for a permit to display ''R-Evolution'' on the National Mall starting in November 2017 for the "Catharsis on the Mall" event, but the permit was denied over fears the turf would be damaged. Although the sculpture was too tall for temporary installations on the Mall, a height variance was issued and later revoked. Undaunted, the group instead applied to exhibit a -tall composite photograph of 27 naked women holding the same pose, which a spokeswoman called "a healing image and it's about making women feel safe in their environments." San Leandro station is a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) metro station, station located off Davis Street (California State Route 61, Route 61/122) in downtown San Leandro, California.
