Marcel Braithwaite
Marcel Braithwaite (born 3 May 1994) is an English Professional boxing, professional boxer who is a former British Boxing Board of Control, British and Commonwealth Boxing Council, Commonwealth super-flyweight champion. He has also held the English and World Boxing Council, WBC International Silver titles in the same weight division. Career A professional since 2016, Braithwaite became the English super-flyweight champion with a majority decision win over defending champion Craig Derbyshire at the Connexin Live Arena, Bonus Arena in Kingston upon Hull, Hull on 26 October 2019. Two of the ringside judges scored the fight 97–93 and 96–94 respectively in his favour, while the third had it a 95–95 draw. In his next outing, he took on Sunny Edwards for the vacant British Boxing Board of Control, British super-flyweight title at the Copper Box Arena in London on 21 December 2019. Super flyweight, also referred to as junior bantamweight, is a weight class in professional boxing, contested from and up to . History The first title match in this division was in 1980, when the World Boxing Council responded to pressure from Asian and Latin American members who felt the difference between the flyweight limit and the bantamweight limit was too significant. Rafael Orono won the inaugural title in February of that year by defeating Seung-Hoon Lee. The World Boxing Association followed suit in 1981 when Gustavo Ballas won the vacant title by knocking out Sok-Chul Baek. The first International Boxing Federation champion was Ju-Do Chun, who won the belt in 1983 with a knockout of Ken Kasugai.
