Marc Tolon Brown (born November 25, 1946) is an American author and illustrator of children's books. Brown writes as well as illustrates the ''Arthur'' book series and is best known for creating that series and its numerous spin-offs. Early life and education While growing up in Erie, Pennsylvania, with his three sisters, Brown was told many stories by his grandmother Thora. This inspired Brown to write stories of his own in the later years of his life. An example of this was the "borrowing" of his 7th grade algebra teacher's name Mr. Rathbun for the character Mr. Ratburn. It was Grandma Thora who also fueled Brown's affinity for drawing, which was discovered at the age of six. While attending McDowell Senior High School, his art teacher, Nancy Bryan, introduced him to watercolors, which he now uses for the majority of his illustrations. Marc Brown (born July 5, 1969) is an American basketball coach and retired professional player. He is currently head basketball coach at New Jersey City University. He played professionally for 15 years following an All-American college career at Siena College. Marc Brown (born March 10, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He is an assistant coach with Villacher SV of the Austrian Hockey League. Career Brown turned professional in 1999, and played five season with the Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League (AHL), scoring 79 goals for the IceCats to establish the team's record for most career goals scored. Marc Stacy Brown (born May 7, 1961) is a former professional American football wide receiver who played for the Buffalo Bills in 1987. Brown attended Nyack High School, graduating in 1979, before playing college football at both Westchester Community College and Towson State. While at WCC, he was named the team's player of the year and to the all-state junior college team. He graduated from Towson with a degree in communications in 1983. He signed with the Washington Federals of the United States Football League in January 1983, but was released in April after playing in three games. He was later signed by the National Football League's Philadelphia Eagles for one month in 1983, and also signed with the USFL's Philadelphia Stars. He signed with the Buffalo Bills in December 1986, but was waived in July 1987. Marc Alan Brown (born September 29, 1961) is an American television news anchor at KABC-TV in Los Angeles. Brown co-anchors the station's ''Eyewitness News HD'' newscasts at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Brown has earned four Emmy Awards, a Golden Mike, an Associated Press and a Radio and Television News Director Association award. Brown graduated from Narbonne High School (Class of 1979) in Los Angeles's Harbor City neighborhood and earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science from the University of Southern California. His first television job was as a reporter at KIEM-TV in Eureka, California in 1984.
