Marbache
Marbache () is a commune in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in northeastern France. History One of the first references to Marbache is dated 896, written by Zwentibold, 1st Duke of Lotharingia, who called it "Merbechia". It becomes "Marbage" in 1181 and "Marbaiche" in 1333. In the 12th century a priory was built in Marbache by the Premonstratensians of the Abbaye de Sainte-Marie-au-Bois. There is an inscription carved in stone, dated 1141, above the entrance porch. In 1850 Marbache was a small village of winegrowers. That year the railway was built past the village, and rock was extracted from the valley walls to obtain material for the railway bed. The rock contained iron, and after surveys the Société des Mines de Marbache was created to exploit it. The Pont-à-Mousson company was created in 1856 by a group of Lorraine businessmen to use the ore to manufacture cast iron. Xavier Rogé was the manager. Camille Cavallier
Camille Cavallier (19 May 1854 – 10 June 1926) was a French industrialist who directed the Pont-à-Mousson iron works in Lorraine in the first quarter of the 20th century, specializing in making cast iron pipes. He came from a poor family but obtained a good technical education and joined the iron maker as an employee in 1874. He rose rapidly through the ranks, and started to acquire shares. Soon after taking charge of the company he became the largest shareholder. He quadrupled production in the years leading up to World War I (1914–18). The company was devastated by the war, but Cavallier managed to bring production back up to prewar levels before his death. Zwentibold (''Zventibold'', ''Zwentibald'', ''Swentiboldo'', ''Sventibaldo'', ''Sanderbald''; – 13 August 900), a member of the Carolingian dynasty, was the illegitimate son of Emperor Arnulf. Lotharingia
Lotharingia was a historical region and an early medieval polity that existed during the late Carolingian and early Ottonian era, from the middle of the 9th to the middle of the 10th century. It was established in 855 by the Treaty of Prüm, as a distinctive kingdom within the Carolingian Empire, but abolished already in 869-870 when it was divided by the Treaty of Meerssen. It was territorially reunited in 880 by the Treaty of Ribemont, and reestablished as a kingdom from 895 to 900. The Order of Canons Regular of Prémontré (), also known as the Premonstratensians, the Norbertines and, in United Kingdom, Britain and Ireland, as the White Canons (from the colour of their religious habit, habit), is a religious order of canons regular in the Catholic Church.
