Deir Moses the Black, Mar Musa al-Habashi ( ''deiro d-mor mūše kūšoyo''; , ALA-LC: ''dayr mār Mūsá al-Ḥabashī''), literally, the Monastery of Moses the Abyssinian, Saint Moses the Abyssinian, is a Monastery, monastic community of the Syriac Catholic Church located near the town of An-Nabk, Nabk, Syria, approximately north of Damascus, on the eastern slopes of the Anti-Lebanon Mountains. The main church of the monastic compound hosts precious frescoes dating to the 11th and 12th centuries. History An ancient building, stone circles, lines, and tombs were recently discovered near the monastery in 2009 by archaeologist Robert Mason (archaeologist), Robert Mason of the Royal Ontario Museum. Mason suggested that the ruins may date back 10,000 years and were likely constructed in the Neolithic period (such as the Heavy Neolithic Qaraoun culture of the Anti-Lebanon). An-Nabk
An-Nabek or Al-Nabek () is a Syrian city administratively belonging to Rif Dimashq and the capital of the An-Nabek District, Qalamoun. It is located north of Damascus and south of Homs and has an altitude of . According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (Syria), Syria Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), An-Nabek had a population of 32,548 in the 2004 census. During the Syrian Civil War the town and surrounding area came under the influence of rebel fighters in an area that spilled over into Lebanon. This pocket was later liquidated by Syrian and Hezbollah troops in the Qalamoun offensive (July–August 2017), with many rebel fighters surrendering to government troops.
