''Map of Salvation'' is a feature-length docudrama film made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide. The film tells about five European women, Maria Jacobsen (Denmark), Karen Jeppe (Denmark), Bodil Katharine Biørn, Bodil Biørn (Norway), Alma Johansson (Sweden), Anna Hedvig Büll (Estonia), who were witnesses to the Armenian Genocide and subsequently founded shelters for Armenian children and women. Alma Johansson
Alma Viktoria Leontina Johansson (29 October 1880–31 December 1974) was a Swedish missionary who worked in the city of Mush in the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century. Life In 1901, the Missionary Society of Swedish women sent Johansson to Mush (Western Armenia), where she stayed until December 1915. There she worked for the German Hilfsbund-Orphanage for Armenian children. On the outbreak of World War I, the atrocities against the empire's Christian minorities escalated and she became an eyewitness to these crimes against humanity. She wrote about her experiences in a book called ''Ett folk i landsflykt: Ett år ur armeniernas historia'' ("A People in Exile: One Year in the Life of the Armenians", Stockholm: Kvinnliga missions arbetare, 1930), both of which were translated into Armenian and French. Anna Hedvig Büll
Anna Hedvig Büll (born Anna Hedwig Bühl, – 3 October 1981) was a missionary from Estonia who helped to save the lives of several thousand Armenian orphans during the Armenian genocide. Anna Hedwig Büll (Bühl) was born into a Baltic German Lutheran family in 1887 in Haapsalu (Hapsal), Estonia, then part of the former Russian Empire. Her father owned a mud cure resort in Haapsalu. She was the sixth of eight brothers and sisters. Büll attended a local public school in until age 15. Büll then continued her studies in Saint Petersburg, where for three years she attended a Lutheran German school. While visiting her family in Haapsalu in 1903, inspired by a lecture given by a prominent evangelist Johann Kargel in her father's house, she decided to dedicate her life to work on humanitarian missions. Bodil Katharine Biørn
Bodil Katharine Biørn (27 May 1871 – 22 July 1960), also known as Mother Katharine, was a Norwegian missionary. Biography Biørn was born on 27 January 1871 in Kragerø, Norway, to the family of a wealthy ship owner. In 1905, after studying nursing in Germany, she was sent by the Women's Missionary Organization to the Ottoman Empire and worked as a missionary nurse in Mezereh, Kharberd Province and later in Mush. In cooperation with German missionaries, she opened schools and a clinic for widows and orphans. A witness of the Armenian genocide, she and her colleagues saved the lives of many homeless women and children. She also documented the horrifying and tragic events she witnessed through her testimonial diary and her photography. In the Near East, Biørn took care of Armenian orphans in Syria, Armenia and Turkey. In 1922 she founded an orphanage named "Lusaghbyur" in Alexandropol, Soviet Armenia. Karen Jeppe
Karen Vel Jeppe (1 July 1876 – 7 July 1935) was a Danish people, Danish missionary and social worker, known for her work with Ottoman Armenian refugees and survivors of the Armenian genocide, mainly widows and orphans, from 1903 until her death in Syria in 1935. She was a member of Johannes Lepsius' Deutsche Orient-Mission (German Orient Mission) and assumed responsibility (in 1903) for the Armenian children in the Millet Khan German Refugee Orphanage after the Hamidian massacres#Massacres, 1895 Urfa massacres.
