Manx Americans () are Americans of full or partial Manx ancestral origin or Manx people who reside in the United States of America. Areas with significant numbers of people whose ancestry originates from the Isle of Man include Holt County, Missouri, and Cleveland, Ohio. Settlement in Missouri William Banks was the first Manx settler in Holt County, Missouri, 1841. He was followed by members of the Callow, Cottier, Garrett, Kennish, and Teare families of Maughold. Thomas Cottier arrived in Holt County in 1847, and through his influence approximately 500 Manx people immigrated to the state from the island. Holt County, Missouri
Holt County is a county located in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,223. Its county seat is Oregon. The county was organized February 15, 1841. Originally named Nodaway County, it was soon renamed for David Rice Holt (1803–1840), a Missouri state legislator from Platte County. History The original area of Holt County was much larger than its present area. Manx People
The Manx ( ; ) are an ethnic group originating on the Isle of Man, in the Irish Sea in Northern Europe. They belong to the diaspora of the Gaels, Gaelic ethnolinguistic group, which now populate the parts of the British Isles which once were the Kingdom of the Isles and Dál Riata.
