Manueli Tulo
Manueli Tulo (born 25 March 1990) is a Fijian weightlifter who competed for Fiji at the 2012 Summer Olympics and at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Both times he competed in the Men's 56kg event, finishing 13th both times. His wife Maria Liku also represented Fiji in weightlifting at the 2012 Summer Olympics, while his younger sister, Seruwaia Malani, competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Career In 2009, he won the 2008 Fiji Sportsman of the Year award, having won Fiji's first gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008. Also in 2009, he finished 4th at the Commonwealth Championship. He came 3rd in the 2016 Commonwealth Championship, after finishing 5th in the 2015 edition. Tulo won a gold medal at the 2016 Oceania Weightlifting Championships. Levuka
Levuka () is a Local government in Fiji, town on the eastern coast of the Fijian island of Ovalau (Fiji), Ovalau, in Lomaiviti Province, in the Eastern Division, Fiji, Eastern Division of Fiji. 2018 Commonwealth Games
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and also known as Gold Coast 2018, were an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that was held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018. 2015 World Weightlifting Championships
The 2015 World Weightlifting Championships were held in Houston, United States. The event took place from November 19 to 28, 2015. This event was, together with the 2014 World Weightlifting Championships, the first stage of the Weightlifting at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Qualification, Qualification Process for the 2016 Summer Olympics. In September 2016 the championships won the 2016 SportsTravel Best Amateur Single-Sport Event of the Year, awarded for what SportsTravel Magazine described as "its superior organisation and spectator attendance, [and] for creating superior experience for competitors and spectators". 2017 World Weightlifting Championships
The 2017 World Weightlifting Championships were held in Anaheim, California, United States from 28 November to 5 December 2017. Doping bans Nine countries were banned from competing at the World Championships due to their history of doping at previous Olympic Games, under International Weightlifting Federation rules stating that any country that had three positive tests uncovered by the International Olympic Committee during re-testing of stored urine samples for banned substances from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics would be banned. The banned countries were: Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Turkey, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Azerbaijan. Boycott North Korea and Venezuela boycotted the World Championships due to the crises in relations between the United States and these countries. Clean And Jerk
The clean and jerk is a composite of two weightlifting movements, most often performed with a barbell: the clean and the jerk. During the ''clean'', the lifter moves the barbell from the floor to a racked position across the deltoids, without resting fully on the clavicles. During the ''jerk'', the lifter raises the barbell to a stationary position above the head, finishing with straight arms and legs, and the feet in the same plane as the torso and barbell. Snatch (weightlifting)
The snatch is the first of two lifts contested in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, weightlifting (also known as Olympic weightlifting) followed by the clean and jerk. The objective of the snatch is to lift the barbell from the ground to overhead in one continuous motion. There are four main styles of snatch used: snatch (full snatch or squat snatch), split snatch, power snatch, and muscle snatch. The full lift is the most common style used in competition, while power snatches and muscle snatches are mostly used for training purposes, and split snatches are now rarely used. International Weightlifting Federation
The International Weightlifting Federation, aka IWF, is the international governing body for the sport of Weightlifting. Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, it has 193 affiliated national federations. Mohammed Hasan Jalood has been its president since June 2022. The IWF organizes the World Weightlifting Championships, as well as world championship events for Youth and Juniors. It also cooperates with the International Olympic Committee in the organization of Weightlifting events at the Olympic Games; however, weightlifting's inclusion in the 2028 Olympics is uncertain, due to doping issues within the sport, and governance issues within IWF, and weightlifting's inclusion is expected to be decided by an IOC meeting in 2023. Commonwealth Youth Games
The Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) is an international multi-sport event organized by the Commonwealth Games Federation. The games were held in the years, mid-way between when the Commonwealth Games are held, until 2008. They continued to be held every four years, but in the year ''after'' the Commonwealth Games are held, from 2011 to 2015. Since 2017, they've been held in the year ''before'' the Commonwealth Games are held. The first edition was held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 10 to 14 August 2000.
