Manuel Ciavatta
Manuel Ciavatta (born 27 December 1976) is a Sammarinese politician who is one of two Captains Regent (heads of government for San Marino) in office from 1 October 2022. He is serving alongside Maria Luisa Berti. Biography Ciavatta has a degree in civil engineering from the University of Bologna, but also a bachelor's degree in Sacred Theology. He is a member of the Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party, where he serves as deputy political secretary. The Captains Regent ( Italian: ''Capitani reggenti'') are the two heads of state of the Republic of San Marino. They are elected every six months by the Grand and General Council, the country's legislative body. Normally the Regents are chosen from opposing parties and they serve a six-month term. The investiture of the captains regent takes place on 1 April and 1 October every year. This tradition dates back at least to 1243. The practice of dual heads of government (diarchy) is derived directly from the customs of the Roman Republic, equivalent to the consuls of ancient Rome. Oscar Mina
Oscar Mina (born 24 September 1958) is a Sanmarinese politician, who served as Captain Regent of San Marino with Paolo Rondelli from 1 April to 1 October 2022. He previously served as Captain Regent from 1 April 2009 to October 2009 together with Massimo Cenci. Mina was elected to the Grand and General Council as a member of the Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party in 2006. Life In 1979, Oscar Mina graduated in electrical engineering and subsequently studied political science at the University of Urbino. Since 1979, he is a civil servant in San Marino's water and gas supply. Mina is single and lives in Serravalle. Politics Mina joined the Christian Democratic PDCS in 1998. Paolo Rondelli (born 17 June 1963) is a Sammarinese politician and diplomat who served as Captain Regent of San Marino alongside Oscar Mina from 1 April to 1 October 2022. Career Born in San Marino on 17 June 1963, Rondelli studied chemical engineering at the University of Bologna and graduated in 1990 with a thesis on "Risks associated with the transport of toxic substances". In 1994 and 1995, he studied environmental science and technology, also at the University of Bologna. In May 2010, Rondelli obtained a Master's in Journalism from a programme run by the Universities of Urbino and Tor Vergata in Rome. The Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party ( it, Partito Democratico Cristiano Sammarinese, PDCS) is a Christian democracy, Christian-democratic List of political parties in San Marino, political party in San Marino. The Grand and General Council ( it, Consiglio Grande e Generale) is the parliament of San Marino. The council has 60 members elected for a five-year term. History From the fifth century San Marino was ruled by an assembly composed by all the family heads known as the Arengo. However, as population grew, such a body became more and more dysfunctional, with its functioning being crippled by feuds between families. While the exact timing is unknown, there is historical evidence that by the early 13th century the citizens of San Marino elected an assembly called Council of the LX, which was also known as the Grand and General Council.
