Manuel Asur
Manuel Asur (Manuel Asur González García) ( Güeria Carrocera, San Martín del Rey Aurelio, Asturias, 1947) is a Spanish essayist and poet in Asturian. He's considered to be one of the first modern poets in this language. He has a PhD in Philosophy. His book, ''Cancios y poemes pa un riscar'' ('Songs and Poems to a Dawn') meant the beginning in 1977 of the rebirth (Asturian ''surdimientu'') of Asturian literature, because he contributed with a poetry more modern and daring than anything written before in this language. Most of his works talk about the socio-political facts of the moment. Some became very popular in Asturias in the 1970s since the group Nuberu used them as lyrics for their songs. He wrote also a book of short stories in 1987, ''Hai una llinia trazada'' ('There's a Drawn Line'), consisting of short stories that he says to consider "almost monologues". The Academia de la Llingua Asturiana or Academy of the Asturian Language (ALLA) is an Official Institution of the Government of the Principality of Asturias that promotes and regulates the Asturian language, a language of the Spanish autonomous community of Asturias. Among its principal objectives are investigating and normalising the Asturian Language, developing a dictionary, promoting its use and education and awarding literary prizes. It has 21 full members, 19 foreign members and 15 honorary members, and its current (as of 2017) president is Xosé Antón González Riaño. San Martín del Rey Aurelio (Asturian language, Asturian: Samartín del Rei Aurelio) is a Municipalities of Spain, municipality of the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain. There are three main towns in the municipality: Sotrondio, El Entrego, and Blimea, and many villages, such as Santa Bárbara (San Martín), Santa Bárbara and La Hueria. Location and features It is situated in the central part of Asturias, just below the Sierra de San Mamés, part of the Cantabrian Mountains.
