Manu Tupou
Manu Tupou (January 5, 1935 – June 5, 2004) was an American-based Fijian actor, writer, director, and teacher. Early life Manu Tupou was born on Lomaloma, Lau, Fiji Islands. Education Tupou trained as an actor for 15 years in New York under Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Uta Hagen, Harold Clurman, and Sanford Meisner. He was an Honors graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts New York and a senior life member of the Actors Studio in both New York and Hollywood. He received bachelor's degrees from the University of Hawaii and the University of London. On a summer vacation, Tupou went to an audition on the advice of his girlfriend where he met director George Roy Hill but declined an offer as he was starting school soon. Lomaloma
Lomaloma (; officially ''Lomaloma Tikina'', ) is a village at the south of the island of Vanua Balavu in the Lau archipelago of Fiji. The settlement is part of the tribal district of Tikina, Lomaloma and consists of 9 villages, 13 Yavusa (tribes), 42 Mataqali (clans), and 54 family units known as Tokatoka. The nine villages of Lomaloma Tikina are Lomaloma, Sawana, Susui, Narocivo, Namalata, Uruone, Levukana, Dakuilomaloma, and Tuvuca. ''A Man Called Horse'' is a 1970 Western film directed by Elliot Silverstein, produced by Sandy Howard, and written by Jack DeWitt. It is based on the short story " A Man Called Horse" by the Western writer Dorothy M. Johnson, first published in 1950 in ''Collier's'' magazine and again in 1968 in Johnson's book ''Indian Country''. The basic story was used in a 1958 episode of the television series ''Wagon Train'', titled " A Man Called Horse". Black Elk
Heȟáka Sápa, commonly known as Black Elk (December 1, 1863 – August 19, 1950), was a ''wičháša wakȟáŋ'' (" medicine man, holy man") and '' heyoka'' of the Oglala Lakota people. He was a second cousin of the war leader Crazy Horse and fought with him in the Battle of Little Bighorn. He survived the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890. He toured and performed in Europe as part of Buffalo Bill's Wild West. Black Elk is best known for his interviews with poet John Neihardt, where he discussed his religious views, visions, and events from his life. Neihardt published these in his book '' Black Elk Speaks'' in 1932. This book has since been published in numerous editions, most recently in 2008. Near the end of his life, he also spoke to American ethnologist Joseph Epes Brown for his 1947 book ''The Sacred Pipe''. ''Black Elk Speaks'' is a 1932 book by John G. Neihardt, an American poet and writer, who relates the story of Black Elk, an Oglala Lakota medicine man. Black Elk spoke in Lakota and Black Elk's son, Ben Black Elk, who was present during the talks, translated his father's words into English. Neihardt made notes during these talks which he later used as the basis for his book. The prominent psychologist Carl Jung read the book in the 1930s and urged its translation into German; in 1955, it was published as ''Ich rufe mein Volk'' (''I Call My People''). Othello () is a character in Shakespeare's '' Othello'' (c. 1601–1604). The character's origin is traced to the tale "Un Capitano Moro" in ''Gli Hecatommithi'' by Giovanni Battista Giraldi Cinthio. There, he is simply referred to as the Moor. Othello is a brave and competent soldier of advanced years and Moorish background in the service of the Venetian Republic. He elopes with Desdemona, the beautiful daughter of a respected Venetian senator.
