Manor (Stockport Electoral Ward)
Manor is an electoral ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport. It elects three councillors to Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council using the first past the post electoral method, electing one councillor every year without election on the fourth. This was formerly a stronghold seat for the Liberal Democrats but the incumbent councillor, Sue Derbyshire, was defeated in 2016 to Charlie Stewart, of the Labour Party. Since then, Labour councillors have been elected every year, and it has been a target seat for the Stockport Labour Group. Together with Brinnington and Central, Davenport and Cale Green, Edgeley and Cheadle Heath, Heatons North, and Heatons South, the ward lies in the Stockport Parliamentary Constituency. Manor ward contains Aquinas College, as well as Banks Lane Infant and Junior Schools. Stockport (UK Parliament Constituency)
Stockport is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Navendu Mishra of the Labour Party. History Stockport was created as a two-member parliamentary borough by the Reform Act 1832. Under the Representation of the People Act 1918, the constituency was retained as one of only 12 two-member non-university seats, with the boundaries being brought into line with those of the county borough, which had expanded through absorbing the urban districts of Reddish and Heaton Norris (formerly part of the Stretford constituency), and into neighbouring parishes in the abolished constituency of Hyde. Under the Representation of the People Act 1948, all 2-member seats were abolished and Stockport was split into the single member seats of Stockport North and Stockport South. 2022 Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council Election
The 2022 Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council election took place 5 May 2022 to elect members of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. This was on the same day as other local elections. 21 of the 63 seats were up for election. Background Stockport began as a Conservative council, with Conservative majorities from 1975 to 1982. The Liberal Democrats ( Liberal Party from 1973 to 1988) overtook the Conservatives in 1992, and formed their first administration in 1999, before another period of no overall control from 2000 to 2002 with the second Liberal Democrat majority lasting until 2011. The 2021 Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council election were held on 6 May 2021, to elect members of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council in England. These elections were originally scheduled for 2020 but were suspended for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
