Manoel Victor Cavalcante
Manoel Victor Cavalcante (23 October 1958 – 12 October 2022) was a Brazilian politician. A member of the Democratic Labour Party, he served in the Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina from 1991 to 1995. Cavalcante died on 12 October 2022, at the age of 63. Laguna, Santa Catarina
Laguna is a Brazilian municipality located in the southern state of Santa Catarina, 120 kilometers south of the state's capital, Florianópolis, and north east of Porto Alegre. The population is 46,122 (2020 est.) in an area of 336.4 km2. The elevation is 2 m. The BR-101 coastal highway passes through the municipality. The city was founded in 1676 by rural people of the ''capitania'' of São Vicente. In 1714, the locality was recognized as a municipality, and in 1847 it received the status of city. It was the capital of the short-lived Juliana Republic in 1839. The city's flag is a tricolor with yellow, white and green, and has a coat of arms in the middle. A pod of bottlenose dolphins resident in the sea off Laguna drive fish towards fishermen who stand at the beach in shallow waters. The Democratic Labour Party (, PDT) is a political party in Brazil. History The Democratic Labour Party (PDT) was founded in 1979 by left-wing leader Leonel Brizola as an attempt to reorganise the Brazilian left-wing forces during the end of the Brazilian military dictatorship. Many of its members, including Brizola, had been active in the historical Brazilian Labour Party prior to the 1964 coup, which drove into exile or assassinated a number of its prominent members including ousted President João Goulart. Returning from exile in Uruguay, Brizola originally wanted to reclaim the PTB name for his party, but the military government awarded it to a more moderate grouping led by Ivete Vargas, leading to PDT being formed by a large majority of historical PTB members a week later.
