Mankind (band)
Mankind were a disco band formed in 1978 consisting of engineer Don Gallacher, keyboard player Mark Stevens, Dave Christopher on guitar, Dave Green on bass and Graham Jarvis on drums. They had a #25 on the UK Singles Chart with a disco rendition of the Doctor Who theme music. Background In an interview with MigMag.co.uk, engineer Don Gallacher said that he had the idea for a disco version of the Doctor Who theme music after hearing Meco's Star Wars Theme, and at the suggestion of his three-year-old son, decided that as disco was still popular, it would be a good idea for him to create a disco version of Dr. Who's theme. He commented: "If it wasn't disco it was punk, and I couldn't stand punk". Ronald Baker (1947 – 1990) was an American record producer, bassist, arranger and songwriter. He participated on many Gamble and Huff recordings and was one-third of the production team Baker-Harris- Young. He was one of The Trammps, who are best known for their hit "Disco Inferno", which hit #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. Ovation Records was an American independent record label based in Glenview, Illinois. The label was founded in 1969 by Dick Schory, who had been on RCA Records with his Percussion Pops Orchestra and had helped create the Dynagroove process used by RCA. The label was created to feature many different genres; the mid-1970s success of The Kendalls gave Ovation an image as a country music label, although it continued to record rock and pop. For several years, all Ovation LPs were released in a 4-channel matrix quadraphonic sound, quadraphonic format, which was compatible with stereo 2-channel playback systems.
