Manitoba Provincial Road 243
Provincial Road 243 (PR 243) is an east-west provincial road in the Pembina Valley Region of the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from Manitoba Highway 75, PTH 75 near Emerson, Manitoba, Emerson to Manitoba Highway 32, PTH 32 near Friedensfeld West, Manitoba, Friedensfeld West. Along the route, it passes north of Gretna, Manitoba, Gretna using a small concurrence with Manitoba Highway 30, PTH 30. PR 243 is one of the southernmost east-west highways in the province, and travels in very close proximity to the Canada - United States, US border. During the entire route, the highway travels no more than from the international boundary. Together with portions of Manitoba Highway 3, PTH 3 and Manitoba Highway 32, PTH 32, PR 243 forms the Boundary Commission Trail heading west from Emerson to the Saskatchewan border. Provincial Road 306 (PR 306) is a north-south highway in the Pembina Valley Region of Manitoba. It serves as a connection between the communities of Rosetown, Gnadenthal, Plum Coulee, and Kane. Route description PR 306 begins in the Municipality of Rhineland at an intersection with PR 243 ( Boundary Commission Trail), just north of the hamlet of Neuhorst and the United States border. It heads north as a paved two-lane highway to almost immediately travel through the Rosetown community before continuing north through rural farmland for several kilometres. After crossing a small creek, the highway has a junction with PR 201 just east of the town of Gnadenthal before continuing on to enter the town of Plum Coulee at an intersection with PTH 14. The Municipality of Rhineland is a rural municipality (RM) in the Pembina Valley Region of Manitoba. The RM had a population of 5,945 as of the 2016 Canada Census. The average age in the municipality is 31. It surrounds, but does not include, the Town of Altona. History The municipality was incorporated on January 1, 2015, via the amalgamation of the Rural Municipality of Rhineland and the towns of Gretna and Plum Coulee. It was formed as a requirement of ''The Municipal Amalgamations Act'', which required municipalities with a population less than 1,000 to amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. The Government of Manitoba initiated the amalgamations for municipalities to meet the 1997 minimum population requirement of 1,000 to incorporate a municipality. Provincial Trunk Highway 32 (PTH 32) is a provincial primary highway located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from PTH 14 at Winkler to the U.S. border, where it becomes North Dakota State Highway 32. Between its northern end and its intersection with PR 243, PTH 32 follows the Boundary Commission Trail. The speed limit is 100 km/h from Winkler to just north of the US border, and 50 km/h inside the city of Winkler and in the border/customs area. Provincial Trunk Highway 32 was ranked the 3rd worst road in all of Manitoba in 2013.
