Manitoba Highway 1A
Provincial Trunk Highway 1A (PTH 1A) is the name used for two provincial primary highways located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. One is located within the city of Portage la Prairie and the other, within and west of the city of Brandon. Portage la Prairie section The section of PTH 1A at Portage la Prairie is also known as Saskatchewan Avenue and like most alternate spurs, it was the old route of PTH 1 until its current alignment was built. The highway is an alternate route that goes through Portage la Prairie. The highway in Portage la Prairie is westbound and eastbound. The speed limit is within city limits unless otherwise posted, becoming on both sides approaching PTH 1. The highway received its current designation after the Portage la Prairie bypass was completed and opened to traffic in 1970. CFB Shilo
Canadian Forces Base Shilo (CFB Shilo; ) is an operations and training base of the Canadian Armed Forces, located east of Brandon, Manitoba, Brandon, Manitoba and adjacent to Sprucewoods. During the 1990s, Canadian Forces base, Canadian Forces Base Shilo was also designated as an Area Support Unit, which acts as a local base of operations for south-west Manitoba in times of military and civil emergency. Assiniboine River
The Assiniboine River ( ; ) is a long river that runs through the prairies of Western Canada in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. It is a tributary of the Red River. The Assiniboine is a typical meandering river with a single main channel embanked within a flat, shallow valley in some places and a steep valley in others. Its main tributaries are the Qu'Appelle, Souris, and Whitesand Rivers. The river takes its name from the Assiniboine First Nation. Robert Douglas of the Geographical Board of Canada (1933) made several comments as to its origin: "The name commemorates the Assiniboine natives called by La Vérendrye in 1730 'Assiniboils' and by Governor Knight in 1715 of the Hudson's Bay Company 'stone Indians.' Portage la Prairie/Southport Airport is located adjacent to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. It is operated by Southport Aerospace Centre Inc., a commercial-industrial centre. In a road network, a concurrency is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. The practice is often economically and practically advantageous when multiple routes must pass between a single mountain crossing or over a bridge, or through a major city, and can be accommodated by a single right-of-way.
