Manic Compression
''Manic Compression'' is the second studio album by American post-hardcore band Quicksand. It was first released on February 24, 1995 on vinyl through Revelation Records, before being given a widespread CD release through Island Records on February 28, 1995. The album influenced many post-hardcore and alternative metal bands. It peaked at number 135 on the ''Billboard'' 200. It was Quicksand's last studio album before their initial breakup, leading to a 22-year gap in output until the release of '' Interiors'', in 2017. In the meantime, a follow-up album was conceptualized during their brief 1997–1999 reunion, but it never materialized. A vinyl version of the album was released in early 2013 by Shop Radio Cast. It incorrectly lists "Landmine Spring" as the first song on the B-side on the cover, when the song is the last song pressed on the A-side. Quicksand (American Band)
Quicksand is an American post-hardcore band from New York City, founded in 1990. Their debut self-titled EP was followed by two major-label albums, '' Slip'' (1993) and ''Manic Compression'' (1995). Quicksand's sound has been compared to that of post-hardcore bands Fugazi and Helmet. The band supported their releases with extensive touring but fell short of the mainstream success anticipated by their labels. These factors and internal stress led them to separate first in 1995 and again in 1999 following a failed year-and-a-half reunion. In June 2012, Quicksand reunited for a special one-night performance and since has been playing additional live shows. The band's third album (and first full-length in 22 years), ''Interiors'', was released on November 10, 2017, and it was followed four years later by their latest album '' Distant Populations'' (2021). It was listed on the London Stock Exchange until it was acquired by Informa in October 2024. Quicksand (band) Albums
Quicksand (also known as sinking sand) is a colloid consisting of fine granular material (such as sand, silt or clay) and water. It forms in saturated loose sand when the sand is suddenly agitated. When water in the sand cannot escape, it creates a liquefied soil that loses strength and cannot support weight. Quicksand can form in standing water or in upward flowing water (as from an artesian spring). In the case of upward-flowing water, forces oppose the force of gravity and suspend the soil particle. The cushioning of water gives quicksand, and other liquefied sediments, a spongy, fluid-like texture. In accordance with Archimedes' principle, objects in liquefied sand sink to the level at which the weight of the object is equal to the weight of the displaced soil/water mix and the submerged object floats due to its buoyancy. Sergio Vega (bassist)
Sergio Vega (born August 25, 1970) is an American musician. He is the bassist of post-hardcore band Quicksand, former bassist of alternative metal band Deftones, and a solo artist. Sergio Vega has been a member of Quicksand since 1990 and appears on all releases including ''Slip'' (1993) and ''Manic Compression'' (1995). He began playing with Deftones in 2009, replacing Chi Cheng. He has appeared on four albums with Deftones: ''Diamond Eyes'' (2010), '' Koi No Yokan'' (2012), ''Gore'' (2016) and '' Ohms'' (2020) until departing the band in early 2021. Biography In 1988, he became the bass player for a New York hardcore band Collapse. Collapse released a demo and contributed a track on the 1988 New Breed cassette compilation released by Freddy Alva of Wardance records. Walter Schreifels
Walter Arthur Schreifels (born March 10, 1969) is an American rock musician from New York City. Career In the late 1980s, he played in many New York hardcore bands, most notably Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits, where he was also the songwriter and lyricist. After Gorilla Biscuits broke up, he formed the short-lived Moondog, releasing only a bootleg 7" record. Moondog would transition into the more aggressive post-hardcore band Quicksand (band), Quicksand. Quicksand went on hiatus in the late nineties. He also collaborated with his former Gorilla Biscuits bandmates in the melodic hardcore band CIV (band), CIV, writing much of their first LP and one song on their follow-up LP despite not actually playing on the record. ''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who, Dave Schulps, and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show ''Top of the Pops)''. Publication of the magazine ceased in 1984. The unexpired portion of mail subscriptions was completed by ''Rolling Stone'' sister publication ''Record'', which itself folded in 1985. ''Trouser Press'' has continued to exist in various formats. The ''Billboard'' 200 is a record chart ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States. It is published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine to convey the popularity of an artist or groups of artists. Revelation Records is an independent record label focusing originally and primarily on hardcore punk. The label is known for releases by bands such as Youth of Today, Warzone, Sick of It All, Quicksand, Side By Side, Chain of Strength, Shelter, Judge, No for an Answer, Gorilla Biscuits, and End of a Year.
