MangaGamer
MangaGamer is a video game publisher specializing in the English localization and distribution of Japanese eroge and visual novels. It is run by Japanese-based company Japan Animation Contents. History MangaGamer was originally envisioned as a company that would sell Japanese visual novels overseas by Hiroshi Takeuchi, also known under his alias Bamboo, president of Japanese eroge development company Overdrive. Due to the cost involved, he convinced several other Japanese eroge companies (Tarte, Nexton and Circus) to take part in a joint venture. Due to this setup, the initial lineup of titles consisted of titles produced by companies involved in MangaGamer's creation, with Navel soon joining with their first title, ''Shuffle!''. These early titles were translated by native Japanese speakers involved with parent companies, which resulted in a subpar quality. Higurashi When They Cry
is a Japanese murder mystery dōjin soft visual novel series produced by 07th Expansion that comprises the first two entries of the ''When They Cry'' franchise. The series focuses on a group of young friends living in the fictional village of Hinamizawa and the strange events that occur there in 1983. The games are built on the NScripter game engine and the Microsoft Windows operating system. The first game in the series, ''Onikakushi-hen'', was released in August 2002, and the eighth and final game in the original PC series, ''Matsuribayashi-hen'', was released in August 2006. While the first four games carried the overall title ''Higurashi no Naku Koro ni'' and are considered the first entry in the ''When They Cry'' franchise, the next four games were produced under the title ''Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai'' and are considered the second entry. ''Ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two'' is a Japanese two-part adult visual novel series by Minori for Windows PCs and PlayStation 2. The first game in the series, ''Ef: The First Tale'', was released on December 22, 2006, and the second game, ''Ef: The Latter Tale'', was released on May 30, 2008. The opening video for the game was animated by Makoto Shinkai, and a majority of the music was produced by Tenmon, who has worked in the past with Shinkai and Minori. Female character design was by Naru Nanao of ''Da Capo'' fame, while male character design was by 2C Galore. Kara No Shōjo
is an adult visual novel/adventure game video game by Innocent Grey for Windows. It was released in Japan on July 4, 2008, and by MangaGamer (with the assistance of the TLWiki) for English-speaking markets on June 29, 2011. An HD remastered versions of the trilogy in English and Chinese under the title 'The Shell' are in development with an original translation unique from the MangaGamer one. Gameplay ''Kara no Shōjo''s gameplay primarily revolves around reading dialogue with other characters and making choices that affect the outcome of the game. ''Shuffle!'' (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese visual novel developed by Navel (company), Navel. It was originally released as an Eroge, adult game for Microsoft Windows, Windows on January 30, 2004. It was subsequently followed by an all-ages release for the PlayStation 2 (PS2) and an expanded adult release for Windows. The Windows version was localized in English by MangaGamer in 2009, and the PS2 version was localized in English by YumeHaven in 2016 on Steam (service), Steam.
