Manfred Mann
Manfred Mann were an English Rock music, rock band formed in London in 1962. They were named after their keyboardist Manfred Mann (musician), Manfred Mann, who later led the successful 1970s group Manfred Mann's Earth Band. The group had two lead vocalists: Paul Jones (singer), Paul Jones from 1962 to 1966 and Mike d'Abo from 1966 to 1969. Other members of various group line-ups were Mike Hugg, Mike Vickers, Dave Richmond, Tom McGuinness (musician), Tom McGuinness, Jack Bruce (later of Cream (band), Cream) and Klaus Voormann. Prominent in the Swinging London scene of the 1960s, the group regularly appeared in the UK Singles Chart. Their breakthrough hit "5-4-3-2-1" (1964) was the theme tune for the ITV (TV network), ITV pop music show ''Ready Steady Go!''. The band achieved a UK and US No. 1 hit with "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" (1964), which made them the first southern-England band to top the US charts during the British Invasion. Klaus Voormann
Klaus Otto Wilhelm Voormann (born 29 April 1938) is a German graphic artist, artist, musician, and record producer. Voormann was the bassist for Manfred Mann from 1966 to 1969, and performed as a session musician on a host of recordings, including "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon, Lou Reed's ''Transformer (Lou Reed album), Transformer'' album, and on many recordings of the former members of the Beatles. As a producer, Voormann worked with the band Trio (band), Trio on their worldwide hit "Da Da Da". Voormann's association with the Beatles dates back to The Beatles in Hamburg, their time in Hamburg in the early 1960s. He lived in the band's London flat with George Harrison and Ringo Starr after John Lennon and Paul McCartney moved out to live with their respective partners. Do Wah Diddy Diddy
"Do Wah Diddy Diddy" is a song written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich and originally recorded in 1963, as "Do-Wah-Diddy", by the American vocal group the Exciters. ''Cash Box'' described the Exciters' version as "a sparkling rocker that bubbles over with coin-catching enthusiasm" and said that the "great lead job is backed by a fabulous instrumental arrangement." ''Ready Steady Go!'' (or ''RSG!'') was a British rock/pop music television programme broadcast every Friday evening from 9 August 1963 until 23 December 1966. It was conceived by Elkan Allan, head of Rediffusion TV. Allan wanted a light entertainment programme different from the low-brow style of light entertainment transmitted by ATV. The programme was produced without scenery or costumes and with a minimum of choreography and make-up. Allan recruited a fellow journalist, Francis Hitching, as producer. Hitching became a major figure in light entertainment in the 1960s. Robert Fleming was the first director, followed by the documentary director Rollo Gamble, then Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Daphne Shadwell and Peter Croft. "5-4-3-2-1" is a 1964 song by British band Manfred Mann, written by the group's eponymous keyboardist Manfred Mann along with Mike Hugg and Paul Jones. Released as a single on 10 January 1964, the track peaked at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the band's breakthrough single and first commercial hit as the theme tune for the weekly ITV pop music television programme ''Ready Steady Go!''. Cream (band)
Cream were a British rock supergroup formed in London in 1966. The group consisted of bassist Jack Bruce, guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker. Bruce was the primary songwriter and vocalist, although Clapton and Baker contributed to songs. Formed by members of previously successful bands, they are widely considered the first supergroup. Cream were highly regarded for the instrumental proficiency of each of their members. Jack Bruce
John Symon Asher Bruce (14 May 1943 – 25 October 2014) was a Scottish musician. He gained popularity as the primary lead vocalist and bassist of Rock music, rock band Cream (band), Cream. After the group disbanded in 1968, he pursued a solo career and also played with several bands. In the early 1960s, Bruce joined the Graham Bond Organisation (GBO), where he met future Cream bandmate Ginger Baker. After leaving the band, he briefly joined John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, where he met Eric Clapton. In 1966, after a short time with Manfred Mann (band), Manfred Mann, he formed Cream with lead guitarist Clapton and drummer Baker. He co-wrote many of their songs (including "Sunshine of Your Love", "White Room" and "I Feel Free") with poet/lyricist Pete Brown. Dave Richmond
__NOTOC__ David Henry Richmond (born 29 March 1938 in Brighton, Sussex, England) is a British professional bass player, best known as a founder member of the 1960s pop group Manfred Mann. During his short tenure with the group, he played bass on their first hit record, " 5-4-3-2-1". Richmond first picked up the ukulele at the age of 14. He later picked up the bass after hearing " Big Noise From Winnetka" on a record player, owned by his older brother. Probably the most famous song that features Richmond on bass guitar is the 1969 version of Je t'aime... moi non plus by its composer Serge Gainsbourg and his then girlfriend Jane Birkin, and the song became a number one hit in the UK Singles Chart in 1969 (it was also notable for being the first foreign-language song that managed to top the UK singles chart) as well as topping the charts in Austria, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland that year.
