Mandaveli
Mandaveli (also known as Mandavelli or Mandavelipakkam) is a neighborhood in Chennai, India. It is also termed usually as Mandavelipakkam which in the Tamil language "Mandhai" is 'herd of cattle' and "Veli" is 'grassland'. Location Mandaveli is located close to the locality of Mylapore. It is bordered by Mylapore in the north, Santhome (and MRC Nagar) in the east and RA Puram in the south and in the west. It derives its name from a literal translation with reference to the rearing of cows "mandhai" meaning - "herd" and " Veli" which means open space in Tamil. On the west side it is surrounded by Alwarpet. Mandaveli is predominantly a residential area with the main "landmarks" being the 150-year-old Kapali talkies, the Airtel regional office of Tamil Nadu, the Ponds regional head office, Hindustan Lever, and others like Greenways road & boat club. Mandaveli is a railway station on the Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System, Chennai MRTS. Located across the Venkatakrishna Road at Mandaveli, it exclusively serves the Chennai MRTS. History Mandaveli station was opened on 26 January 2004, as part of the second phase of the Chennai MRTS network. Structure The station is elevated and is built along the Buckingham Canal, covering both its banks. The station features two side platforms, and each are 280 metres long. The station building consists of 1,900 sq m of parking area in its basement. Foreshore Estate is a neighbourhood in Chennai, India. It is situated along the southern stretch of the Marina Beach. Alwarpet
Alwarpet is a residential zone in central Chennai and is a part of the greater Teynampet region. It is surrounded by Teynampet in the north and west, Mylapore, Mandavelli and Abhiramapuram in the east, Raja Annamalaipuram in the south, and Nandanam in the southwest. Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System
The Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System, commonly referred to as Chennai MRTS, is a metropolitan rail transit system in Chennai, India. It is operated by Southern Railway of the state-owned Indian Railways. Opened in 1995, it was the first elevated railway line in India. The railway line runs from Chennai Beach to Velachery, covering a distance of with 18 stations and is integrated with the wider Chennai suburban railway network. While the suburban railway has been operational in Chennai since 1931, the Planning Commission of Government of India formed a research group to recommend development of transportation in major cities including Madras in 1965. Mylapore
Mylapore (also spelt Mayilapur), or Thirumayilai, is a neighbourhood in the central part of the city of Chennai, India. It is one of the oldest residential parts of the city.
