''Mandakini (The Milky Way)'' () is a 1999 Sri Lankan Sinhala drama film directed by H.D. Premaratne and executive production by Kithsiri Karunarathna. It stars Ravindra Randeniya and Sabeetha Perera in lead roles along with Asoka Peiris and W. Jayasiri. Music composed by Rohana Weerasinghe. It is the 925th Sri Lankan film in the Sinhala cinema. Production Film was co-produced by director himself with a group of young Sri Lankans in Australia including Kithsiri Karunarathna, Wimal Samarasingha, Ujith Hewabasithage, Athula Ginige, Kamal Bandara, S.J. Sarath Kumara, Srilal Jayaweera and Lakshman Gamage. The world premiere was held in Sydney under the patronage of Australians and aborigines at Greater Union Theatre in 7 March 1999. Liyanage Boniface Walter Perera (born 5 June 1945), popularly known by his stage name Ravindra Randeniya, is a Sri Lankan actor and former politician. He rose to fame in Lester James Peries's film ''Desa Nisa'' in 1975, and was a popular actor during the 1970s and 1980s; He won the Sarasaviya Best Actor Award in 1984 (''Dadayama''), 1985 (''Maya''), 1989 (''Sandakada Pahana''), and 1990 (''Sri Medura''). Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe (born 18 February 1949) is a Sri Lankan musician, composer and singer. Early life Weerasinghe was born on 18 February 1949 in Algiriya, Matara in southern Sri Lanka. He was the youngest child to his parents Henry Weerasinghe and Sepalin Weerasinghe. In 1954, Weerasinghe started schooling from Good Shepard Family Convent in Nuwara Eliya, and later moved to Vidyachakra Buddhist School Ruwan Eliya, Welimada Maha Vidyalaya, Pannipitya Dharmapala Vidyalaya and Gamini Maha Vidyalaya Nuwara Eliya. Sri Lankan cinema encompasses the Sri Lankan film industry. It is a fledgling industry that has struggled to find a footing since its inauguration in 1947 with '' Kadawunu Poronduwa'' produced by S. M. Nayagam of Chitra Kala Movietone. Sri Lankan films are usually made in Sinhala and Tamil, the dominant languages of the country. During the first decade, most films were made in neighboring Southern India and closely followed the conventions of Indian cinema. Studio shooting was the norm, with Indian style sets erected in film studios.
