Manchild (rapper)
Gregory Scott Owens, commonly known by his stage name Manchild (sometimes abbreviated as MC and previously known as Soulheir the Manchild) is a Christian rapper who works within the alternative hip hop genre. He fronts the underground and Christian hip hop group Mars ILL, is part of the Deepspace5 supergroup collective, and has collaborated with the likes of Christian rappers KJ-52 and John Reuben. Name Manchild describes the origin of the name Soulheir in "Manchild Speaks" (a spoken word interlude found on ''The Ringleader'' by DJ Maj): "I used to know this cat named Soulheir / But I offed him, now I use his name often / Manchild is the cat that you wanna be quotin'." Change is an Italian-American post-disco group formed in Bologna, Italy, in 1979 by businessman and executive producer Jacques Fred Petrus (1948–1987) and Mauro Malavasi (born 1957). They were heavily influenced by the disco band Chic. The current incarnation of the group formed in 2018. ''The Night We Called It a Day'' is the debut studio album by underground hip hop supergroup Deepspace5, released on January 8, 2002, through Uprok Records. It was recorded in Dallas, Texas. Recording ''The Night We Called It a Day'' was recorded in one week in Dallas, Texas, in the apartment of group member Playdough. It was produced by Beat Rabbi, DJ Dust, Freddie Bruno, and Playdough, with Playdough producing under a different moniker, Harry Krum. During the recording sessions, the group met future member Sivion. Lyrics and musical style The album features an underground, anti-commercial style. Jayson Young of RapReviews.com called the album "strictly ground-roots, MC/DJ, hard-core hip-hop". Ohmega Watts, real name Milton Campbell, is an American hip hop producer and vocalist from Brooklyn, New York. He releases music under the name Ohmega Watts and as a part of the Lightheaded crew. Biography Campbell was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, by West Indian Parents from Jamaica. He lived in Brooklyn for eight years before moving to Laurelton, Queens, New York. DJ Dust is the DJ and producer for the underground hip-hop groups Mars ILL and Deepspace5. His real name is Nathan Corrona. DJ Dust is known for his hard hitting "boom bap" style of production, often mixing samples from obscure 1960s and 1970s guitar and drum driven records. Manchild, his MC, has been quoted in saying that "Dust is the creative force behind Mars ILL." Corrona was the DJ for deadpoetsociety, a hip hop group based out of Indianapolis.
