Manchild (Neneh Cherry Song)
"Manchild" is a song by Swedish singer-songwriter Neneh Cherry, released in May 1989 by Virgin and Circa as the second single from her debut album, ''Raw Like Sushi'' (1989). It was the first song Cherry wrote; she composed it on a Casio keyboard using an auto-chord setting and ended up with seven chords in the verse alone. Neneh's stepfather Don Cherry commented on this positively, comparing it to a jazz song structure. Nellee Hooper created the beat for the song and wrote the rap with Robert Del Naja. Cherry then gave the track to her future husband, Cameron McVey, who helped to shape the song with the parts and "made it make sense". The song's lyrics are "directed at a full-grown man who has a little more growing up to do". Neneh Cherry
Neneh Mariann Karlsson (; born 10 March 1964), better known as Neneh Cherry, is a Swedish singer, songwriter, rapper, occasional disc jockey, and broadcaster. Her musical career started in London in the early 1980s, where she performed in a number of punk and post-punk bands in her youth, including the Slits and Rip Rig + Panic. Cherry has released six studio albums under her own name. Her first, '' Raw Like Sushi'', was released in 1989 and peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart, thanks in large part to the worldwide hit single " Buffalo Stance". Smith & Mighty
Smith & Mighty are an English trip hop group from Bristol, England, consisting of Rob Smith, Ray Mighty and Peter D Rose. They pioneered the Bristol sound producing Massive Attack's "Any Love". The Bristol sound being a precursor to trip hop. As well as producing for others, they produced their own work, and various solo projects and collaborations. Biography In the late 1980s, they produced their first releases; were breakbeat covers of " Anyone Who Had a Heart" and " Walk On By". Both songs entered the UK Singles Chart. They produced Massive Attack's first single, "Any Love" released in 1988. In 1989, they produced " Wishing on a Star" for Fresh 4, a group consisting of Paul Southey (Suv), Krust, Judge and Flynn Thompson. Massive Attack are an English trip hop collective formed in 1988 in Bristol, England, by Robert Del Naja, Robert "3D" Del Naja, Daddy G, Grant "Daddy G" Marshall, Tricky (musician), Adrian "Tricky" Thaws and Andrew Vowles, Andrew "Mushroom" Vowles. The group currently consists of Del Naja and Marshall. Judy Blame
Judy Blame (12 February 1960 – 19 February 2018) was a British fashion stylist, accessories designer and punk iconoclast. Early life Judy Blame was born Christopher Barnes in 1960 in Leatherhead, Surrey, and grew up in Spain and Devon. He ran away to London at age 17 “to become a punk”, but because he knew nobody there he decided to spend the next two years in Manchester, which had its own lively scene. Among influences he encountered was graphic designer Peter Saville. “It was freedom for me so I was really happy. Barry Owen Kamen (22 September 1963 – 3 October 2015) was a British artist, stylist and model of mixed Burmese, Irish, Dutch and French descent. He was best known as an original member of Ray Petri's Buffalo movement. Early life Barry Kamen was born in Harlow, Essex, England, to Zoe and Neville Kamen. Andrea Oliver (born 26 May 1963) is a British chef, television and radio broadcaster, and former singer. She is best known for her appearances on the BBC TV cooking show ''Great British Menu''. ''Smash Hits'' was a British music magazine aimed at young adults, originally published by EMAP. It ran from 1978 to 2006, and, after initially appearing monthly, was issued fortnightly during most of that time. The name survived as a brand for a spin-off digital television channel, which was later renamed Box Hits, and website. A digital radio station was also available but closed on 5 August 2013.
