Manchester District Music Archive
Manchester Digital Music Archive (MDMarchive) is an online community archive founded in 2003 by Matthew Norman, Alison SurteesAbigail Ward CP Lee and Dave Rofe. It was created as a way of celebrating and raising awareness of Greater Manchester's musical heritage and protecting collections of material held by individuals and institutions relating to the subject. Towards the end of 2015 it became a registered charity. Beginnings The archive, originally named Manchester District Music Archive, came about in 2003 after Surtees and Norman had the idea of making a documentary about the Greater Manchester music scene, loosely based on CP Lee's book ‘Shake, Rattle and Rain’. Realising the subject was too vast to be contained within a documentary, Surtees and Norman, alongside Dave Rofe and CP Lee, decided to launch a campaign to create a Greater Manchester music museum. CP Lee
Christopher Paul Lee (19 January 1950 – 25 July 2020) was a British musician, author, broadcaster and lecturer from Manchester, England. Biography Lee was born in Didsbury, south Manchester. He was a writer, broadcaster, lecturer and performer who started playing in the North West folk and beat clubs of the 1960s with his band Greasy Bear and became a linchpin of the punk rock explosion with his next band Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias. In 1977 Lee wrote the "snuff-rock" musical ''Sleak'', which ran for several months in London's Royal Court Theatre and the Roundhouse. It subsequently had a run at Privates in New York City in 1980. Kevin Cummins (photographer)
Kevin Cummins (born 1953) is a British photographer known for his work with rock bands and musicians. His work is held in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, London, National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Career Cummins studied photography at Salford College. He started photographing rock bands in the mid-1970s in Manchester. Cummins had a 25-year association with the ''NME'', including 10 years as their chief photographer. He has photographed numerous bands and musicians. His images have been seen as a contributing factor in the rise of the Madchester and Cool Britannia scenes. Cummins was instrumental in establishing ''City Life'', Manchester's what's on guide and was a founding contributor to ''The Face (magazine), The Face'', the style magazine where he won an award for Magazine Cover of the Year. Stockport is a town in Greater Manchester, England, south-east of Manchester, south-west of Ashton-under-Lyne and north of Macclesfield.
