Malú Urriola
María de la Luz Urriola González (9 June 1967 – 21 July 2023), most often known as Malú Urriola, was a Chilean poet, screenwriter and academic. She wrote seven books of poetry and won the 2006 Pablo Neruda Award. She was a professor at the Catholic University of Chile. As a screenwriter, Urriola wrote for the television programs ' and '. Early life and academia Malú Urriola was born in Santiago on 9 June 1967. She began writing at the age of 14 and received a scholarship from the poetry workshop of the in 1986. Urriola earned a master's degree in scriptwriting in Madrid, Spain. She was a professor in the Faculty of Letters at the Catholic University of Chile. Writing career Urriola published her first book, ''Piedras rodantes'', in 1988 when she was 21. Santiago Municipal Literature Award
The Santiago Municipal Literature Award () is one of the oldest and most important literary awards in Chile Created in 1934 by the municipality of Santiago, its first edition awarded the categories of novel, poetry and theater (later to be renamed as dramaturgy). Two categories were added soon after – essay, in 1941, and short story, in 1954 – and four other more recently, in 2013 – children's and young adult literature, referential (memoirs, chronicles, diaries, letters, biographies, and also compilations and anthologies), journalistic research and editing. In 2014 it was decided to start awarding children's and young adult literature separately, making it a total of ten categories. Paz Errázuriz
Paz Errázuriz (born 2 February 1944 in Santiago, Chile) is a Chilean photographer. Errázuriz documented marginalized communities such as sex workers, psychiatric patients, and circus performers during the military dictatorship of Chile. Errázuriz's has said about her work: "They are topics that society doesn't look at, and my intention is to encourage people to dare to look." She was a teacher at a primary school when Augusto Pinochet overtook Chile's Presidential Palace in 1973, inspiring her to begin her photography career. She is the co-founder of the Association of Independent Photographers (AFI). Originally titled the "Asociación de Fotógrafos Independientes," she helped create the AFI in 1981 to make it easier for artists in Chile to find legal support and organize group art shows. ''The Sentimental Teaser'' () is a 1999 Chilean film directed by Cristián Galaz. The protagonist is a DJ named Rumpy, and his listeners call in to the radio station to tell their stories. A 2007 sequel was released, titled ''Radio Corazón''. Summary The film, which premiered in Chile on October 28, 1999, is based on the radio show "El chacotero sentimental" (The Sentimental Jester). The plot follows a typical day of the show, where the Rumpy (Roberto Artiagoitía), the host, receives three phone calls from two men and a woman who share their stories, ranging from laughter to tears, but always receiving wise advice from the Rumpy, better known as "the sentimental jester" himself, and a song to liven up the situation, which is always introduced by the popular phrase: "we're going to play you a song". The Pablo Neruda Prize for Young Poetry () is a literary award granted annually by the since 1987. It recognizes an author under 40 who is actively writing. It consists of a diploma, a medal, and , which are presented at La Chascona house museum in Santiago. History The creation of the Pablo Neruda Award was announced in July 1987 as part of the commemoration of the 83rd anniversary of Pablo Neruda, the poet's birth. When announcing it, the Pablo Neruda Foundation stipulated that it would be granted annually to a Chilean writer, less than 40 years old, initially endowed with $3,000.
