Malú Gatica
Henrietta Maria de la Luz Gatica Boisier (January 15, 1922 – August 10, 1997), known as Malú Gatica, was a Chilean actress and singer. Biography Gatica was born in Purén. With her parents, the journalist Roberto Gatica and Leonie Boisier, Gatica moved to New York in 1928 where she attended elementary and secondary school, as well as studying languages and music. Her first public appearance occurred as a singer at the age of 16 on NBC, where her father worked. Later, in Buenos Aires, she studied theater at the Conservatoire Cunill Cabanellas. Her maternal grandfather was the French settler, French José Boisier Bourgeaux. In 1948 in the US, she married Eugene Fell, an American military attaché at the Mexican Embassy; they had a son, Leon. The marriage did not last long and she lost custody of her child. Purén
Purén is a city (2002 pop. 12,868) and commune in Malleco Province of La Araucanía Region, Chile. It is located in the west base of the Nahuelbuta mountain range (650 km. south of Santiago). The economical activity of Purén is based in forest exploitation and agriculture. The most characteristic product of Purén is the white strawberry which is one of two species of strawberry that were hybridized to create the modern garden strawberry. In Mapuche language or Mapudungun Purén means ''swampy place''. ''The Big Chamorro Circus'' (Spanish: ''El gran circo Chamorro'') is a 1955 Chilean comedy film directed by José Bohr and starring Eugenio Retes and Malú Gatica. Plot The story revolves around the life of Euríspides Chamorro (Retes), who worked various roles in a circus, including ticket-taker and clown, to finance his son Fernando's (Guixé) medical studies. One day, he receives a telegram informing him that his son had completed his degree. Proud of his son's achievement, Euríspides travels to Santiago to find him, but is devastated to discover that Fernando had dropped out of college years ago and was spending his nights at a boîte in the capital.
