Malå Municipality
Malå Municipality (; sju, Málágen kommuvdna) is a municipality in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden. Its seat is located in Malå. History Between 1974 and 1982 Malå Municipality was included in Norsjö Municipality. In 1983 it was re-established within its former boundaries. Geography The municipality is situated within the province of Lapland, and as such is characterized by a sparse population and wide areas of untouched nature and wildlife. Malå Municipality is also one of the southernmost outposts of the native Sami people settlements. The nearest towns are Arvidsjaur and Lycksele, at a distance of about 80 kilometers, taking about an hour to drive. Both towns have airports with routes to larger cities such as Stockholm. The provinces of Sweden ( sv, Sveriges landskap) are historical, geographical and cultural regions. Sweden has 25 provinces; they have no administrative function (except for in some cases as sport districts), but remain historical legacies and a means of cultural identification as pertains, for example, to dialects and folklore. Lycksele Municipality
Lycksele Municipality (; sma, Liksjoe tjïelte; sju, Liksjuon kommuvdna) is a municipality in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden. Its seat is located in Lycksele. The municipality traces its history to Lycksele parish, which was in effect during the 19th century with very similar borders and size (5,000-5,500 km²). The whole rural municipality Lycksele became a market town (''köping'') in 1929 and city in 1946. In 1971 it was amalgamated with Örträsk Municipality. Generally the northern municipalities, already sparsely populated, have population decreases, but various supporting projects also exist. For instance, a campus of Umeå University is situated here. Norrbotten County
Norrbotten County ( sv, Norrbottens län; se, Norrbottena leatna, fi, Norrbottenin lääni) is the northernmost county or '' län'' of Sweden. It is also the largest county by land area, almost a quarter of Sweden's total area. It shares borders with Västerbotten County to the southwest, the Gulf of Bothnia to the southeast, the counties of Nordland and Troms og Finnmark in Norway to the northwest, and Lapland Province in Finland to the northeast. The name "Norrbotten" is also used for a province of the same name. Arvidsjaur Municipality
Arvidsjaur Municipality ( sv, Arvidsjaurs kommun; sju, Árviesjávrrien kommuvdna) is a municipality in Norrbotten County in northern Sweden. Its seat is Arvidsjaur. History Arvidsjaur Municipality was for a long time inhabited only by the Sami people. They were back then a hunting people, living off the abundance of fish and wildlife in the area. Archaeological discoveries suggest that people have been moving through the area for several thousands of years. The name ''Arvidsjaur'' itself comes from a Sami word which means "generous water" and was originally the name of the adjacent lake. In the 14th and 15th century some farmers settled in the area. They acquired furs and skins from the hunters, and traded them off to southern regions, allegedly in vast numbers. An urban area or () in Sweden has a minimum of 200 inhabitants and may be a city, town or larger village. It is a purely statistical concept, not defined by any municipal or county boundaries. Skellefteå
Skellefteå (, locally ) is a city in Västerbotten County, Sweden. It is the seat of Skellefteå Municipality, which had 73,246 inhabitants in 2021. The city is historically industrial, with mining being a large part of that industry, especially for gold, leading to the city being nicknamed ''Guldstaden'' ("gold town"). Politically, Skellefteå is a Social Democratic stronghold.
