Mallee Football League (Victoria)
The Mallee Football Netball League (MFNL) was an Australian rules football and netball competition finishing in 2015 with just five clubs based in the Mallee (Victoria), Mallee region of northwestern Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. The league featured three grades in the Australian rules football competition, being First-Grade, Reserve-Grade and Under 16s. It is not to be confused with the identically named Mallee Football League (South Australia). History The ''Mallee Football League'' was formed in 1997 from the merger of the Northern Mallee Football League and Southern Mallee Football League. The Northern Mallee Football League had been reduced to four clubs after Ouyen Rovers and Tempy, Victoria, Tempy-Gorya-Patchewollock, Victoria, Patchewollock merged to form Ouyen United in September 2015. Southern Mallee Giants
The Southern Mallee Thunder is an Australian rules football club that currently competes in the Wimmera Football Netball League (WFNL) in Victoria. The club was formed in 2023 as a merger of the Southern Mallee Giants and Jeparit-Rainbow. History Southern Mallee Giants The Southern Mallee Giants Football Club was formed in 2014 and was based in the towns of Hopetoun and Beulah. The club was the result of a merger of the Hopetoun and the Beulah football clubs in 2014, and competed in the last year of the Mallee Football League (MFL) in 2015. The league was reduced to five clubs and was deemed uneconomical to continue, and the Giants were accepted into the Horsham District Football Netball League (HDFNL) for the 2016 season. Patchewollock, Victoria
Patchewollock is a town in north-west Victoria, Australia. At the 2021 census, Patchewollock had a population of 149. The name Patchewollock originated from two Aboriginal words: ''putje'', plenty, and ''wallah'', porcupine grass. The town was first established after the First World War, when soldier settlement blocks were appearing in the area. A post office (originally a receiving office) opened on 27 July 1920. Horsham & District Football League
The Horsham District Football League is an amateur Australian rules football league based in the Wimmera area of Western Victoria (Australia), Victoria. History The league in its present form was created in 1946. Prior to World War 2 a number of local leagues existed around Horsham, Victoria, Horsham, shrinking to one in 1934. The clubs that played in the previous incarnation in 1934 were Green Park (which won the premiership), CYMS, Quantong, Adelphians, Church of England, Longerenong and Pimpinio Seconds. The clubs that played in 1946 were Kalkee (which won the premiership), Horsham Homers, Wonwondah, Jung, Wail, Laharum, RSL, Longerenong College, Taylors Lake and YCW. In 1982 the league expanded after the West Wimmera Football League disbanded and five clubs joined: Goroke, Noradjuha, Douglas-Harrow-Miga Lake, Gerang - Kiata, and Netherby-Lorquon. Beulah, Victoria
Beulah is a town in the southern Mallee region of Victoria, Australia. The town is in the Shire of Yarriambiack local government area, 395 kilometres north-west of the state capital, Melbourne. At the 2016 census, Beulah had a population of 329. History The town's name is taken from the Book of Isaiah, 62:4. In some English translations, the word is given as "married" or "inhabited". Beulah was established on land that was once part of Brim station. Closer settlement began in the 1880s and the town site was proclaimed in 1891. A post office opened on May 6, 1891, and the railway from Warracknabeal opened on 5 January 1893. The line to Hopetoun opened on 6 March 1894. The North Central Football League is an Australian rules football league based in North Central Victoria, Australia. History At a Delegate's meeting in April 1930 of the North Central District Football League, the following club's had withdrew from the competition - Birchip, Donald, St Arnaud and Watchem and it was decided to abandoned the NCDFL for 1930. The North Central Football League was then formed around May 1930 from the following clubs - Birchip, Donald, St. Arnaud and Watchem. In 1937, the North Central FL decided on playing their competition on the Wednesday afternoon half holiday day, which meant that Birchip and Woomelang clubs were forced to apply for admission to the Ouyen Football League. Culgoa
Culgoa is a town in the Mallee region in the north west of the Australian state of Victoria. The town is about from the state capital, Melbourne. At the 2021 census, Culgoa had a population of 86, declining from 101 in 2016. Primary production in the area is predominantly wheat and barley, with some legume and oil crops. Sheep numbers have been down since the drought took hold in the early 2000s. The Post Office opened on 27 May 1893 as Kaneira shortly after the arrival of the railway and was renamed Culgoa in 1920. In 2006 the post office was relocated to the Culgoa Community Store which is a community owned not for profit business to meet the daily needs of the locals. In 2003 when it looked like the local store would close the community formed a co-operative and purchased the store to run for themselves. Berriwillock
Berriwillock is a town in the Mallee region in the north-west of the Australian state of Victoria. Berriwillock is north-west of the state capital, Melbourne. Nearby towns include Boigbeat (about north west and Culgoa south east. Berriwillock is due west of the Murray River and is a vibrant grain producing community. Transport Berriwillock is adjacent to the Calder Highway, northwest of Melbourne. It was formerly served by the Berriwillock railway station on the Kulwin railway line. The line has not carried passenger services since 1977, but is still available for freight (bulk grain), and there are bulk grain silos at the station. Sea Lake is a town in the Mallee district of north-west Victoria, Australia and is situated on the southern shores of Lake Tyrrell. The town is located on the Calder Highway, north-west of Melbourne, and west of Swan Hill. Sea Lake is in the heart of Australia's wheat belt, and is the main township for a number of wheat farms in the region. At the , Sea Lake had a population of 619. History The site upon which Sea Lake is situated was first visited by colonists in 1838. Sea Lake may have been given its name by an early settler, Edward Eyre, from the Port Phillip area.
