Malene Sølvsten
Malene Sølvsten (1977 – 20 October 2024) was a Danish author of young adult fantasy books. Life and career Sølvsten was born in 1977. She had a master's degree in International Finance and Business from Copenhagen Business School (2010). Sølvsten's first book, ''Ravnenes Hvisken'' (Whisper of the Ravens), was published in 2016. This later became the name of the entire trilogy, this first volume being renamed to ''Ansuz''. That same year it was nominated for the Danish reader's book award ( Læsernes Bogpris), and in 2017 won the Orla award for 'Best immersion'. It became so popular, that she decided to resign her position in the Danish Agency for Digitisation in order to focus entirely on writing. She remained a full-time author until her death in 2024. Brønderslev
Brønderslev is a city in Denmark with a population of 12,946 (1 January 2025). The city is the largest urban area in Brønderslev Municipality and is the municipal seat. It is the fourth largest city of Vendsyssel within the North Jutland Region. History The name of the town is derived from a local Norsemen chief, Brunder. Brønderslev was formerly known as ''Vester Brønderslev'', in contrast to the neighboring ''Øster Brønderslev''. As of 2020, Øster Brønderslev has a population of just 943. Vester Brønderslev was once a small farming village. In 1682, it consisted of just 27 farms and 47 houses. The town was not initially located on any major thoroughfares and saw very little traffic. Thus, the town grew comparatively gradually. By the 1850s, however, an inn and an established market had begun to draw more traders to settle on the road near the city. Young adult literature (YA) is typically written for readers aged 12 to 18 and includes most of the themes found in adult fiction, such as family dysfunction, substance abuse, alcoholism, and sexuality. It is characterized by simpler world building than adult literature as it seeks to highlight the experiences of adolescents in a variety of ways. There are various genres within young adult literature. The earliest known use of term ''young adult'' occurred in 1942. Prior to the 1930s teenagers, adolescents and young adults were still considered children in society. Following the recognition of teenagers as a distinct group of people, the designation of young adult literature was developed by librarians to help teenagers make the transition between children's literature and adult literature. Buxtehude Bull
The Buxtehude Bull (German: Buxtehuder Bulle) is an award for youth literature, established in 1971 by Winfried Ziemann, a local book merchant from Buxtehude, a Hanseatic City located in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. The town council took over the sponsorship of the award in 1981. The award is given annually to the best children's or young-adults' book published in German (either native language or translated) in the preceding year. The writer is presented with a small steel statue of the bull (German: ''Bulle'') Ferdinand, from the popular work ''The Story of Ferdinand'' by Munro Leaf, and also receives a monetary prize of €5,000.
