Maldòn
"Maldòn" is a 1989 song recorded by the Guadeloupean band Zouk Machine. Written and produced by Guy Houllier and Yves Honoré, the song is the first single from the album of the same name, and was released in May 1990. In France, it achieved a huge success, topping the singles charts for nine weeks. In 1990, German Eurodance band Snap! sampled ''Maldòn'' for its worldwide hit '' Ooops Up''. Chart performance In France, "Maldòn" debuted at number 40 on the chart edition of 26 May 1990 and reached number one four weeks later, replacing "Bo le lavabo" atop. It stayed for seven weeks at this position, then dropped to number two, being dislodged by Charles D. Lewis's summer hit "Soca Dance"; however, after six weeks at number two, it regained number one for other two weeks, then almost did not stop to fall and fell off the top 50 after 27 weeks of presence. Fanny Jacques-André-Coquin better known as Fanny J (born in Cayenne in French Guiana on 6 October 1987) is a French singer of zouk and contemporary R&B. Career She started very early in music taking part in various local music competitions in Guiana like Révélation Podium and Podium Inter-Lycées de Guyane and very early on adopted the zouk genre of music. During one of the competitions, she met Warren, a well-known songwriter and producer who offered the song "On t'a zappé" for her. In 2006, she moved to Limoges, France for her studies, but continued her musical aspirations preparing for an album. In 2007, Warren wrote "Ancrée à ton port" for her. ''Tropical Family'' is a banner for a musical collective of artists who came together in 2013 to collaborate on an album of tropical music and summer-y dance songs. The 12-track album was released on 1 July 2013, with 12 cover versions of well-known songs by diverse artists. A deluxe edition was released in November with four additional tracks included. Initially, Serge Gainsbourg's "Couleur café" as performed by Louisy Joseph had been recorded, but eventually it was set aside in favor of Teri Moïse's song "Les Poèmes de Michelle" as interpreted by Slaï on the album. "Bo le lavabo (WC Kiss)" is a 1990 novelty song recorded by the French TV presenter and humorist Lagaf'. It was his debut single and achieved success in France. Background and writing In one of his sketches, French humorist Vincent Lagaf' (Vincent Rouil), who featured on several TV programs in the 1980s and 1990s, commented on how easy it was to produce a hit single during the house period, as the repetitive music distracts the audience from the words, reduced to a bare and trivial content. As the sketch had a great success, he decided to release it as an unpretentious but ironic single, built with deliberately very poor lyrics: in the song, Lagaf' explains that, to produce a hit every year, it is enough to barely change the words: the first year, he can sing "il est beau le lavabo" ("the sink is beautiful"), the second year, "il est laid le bidet" ("the bidet is ugly"), and the third year, he mixes both versions. "Ooops Up" is a song by German Eurodance group Snap!, released in June 1990 as the second single from their debut studio album, ''World Power'' (1990). The song is a re-working of " I Don't Believe You Want to Get Up and Dance (Ooops!)"; a 1980 hit by the Gap Band, with whom band member Penny Ford was a former backing singer. "Soca Dance" is a 1990 song written and recorded by the artist Charles D. Lewis. It was released as a single from his album ''Do You Feel It'' and became a summer hit, topping the charts in France and Belgium. The song also gave its name to the dance performed on it.
