Maldivian Idol
''Maldivian Idol'' is a Dhivehi television show based on the popular British show '' Pop Idol'' created by Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment and developed by Fremantle Media. The first season premiered on 22 January 2016. On 2 May, 18-year-old Laisha Junaid from Male' was announced winner, with close contenders Shalabee Ibrahim and Mohamed Ishan coming second and third respectively. The winner was awarded a cash prize of MVR 250,000 (USD 16,213) from the organizer PSM, among a host of other prizes. Ibrahim Zaid Ali
Ibrahim Zaid Ali (born 15 April 1978), commonly known as Kuda Ibbe is a Maldivian singer and music composer. Early life and career Since childhood, Ali had been listening to all genres of songs from Bollywood classical to hip-hop to heavy metal music. At the age of seven, Ali fabricated music equipment including guitar and drum using wood, plywood and tin, where he used these self-made instruments to perform songs in the football stadium. His talent was recognized by a band member who visited his island for a show where this member gifted him with a real guitar. Dhiraagu ( dv, ދިރާގު) is the first Maldivian telecommunications company, which was founded in 1988. The company was created as a joint venture of the Maldivian government and Cable & Wireless and had a monopoly on the entire industry in the country until 2005, and retained a monopoly on fixed telephony and the exclusive right to terminate incoming international traffic on any network until the end of 2008. ''Indian Idol Junior'' is an Indian Hindi-language reality television singing competition and is part of ''Indian Idol''. It began broadcasting on Sony Entertainment Television from 1 June 2013. Karan Wahi and Mandira Bedi were hosts of the show which was judged by music duo Vishal–Shekhar and with playback singer Shreya Ghoshal. A second season started on 30 May 2015. Haveeru Daily (Dhivehi: ހަވީރ ދުވަހު ނޫސް) was the longest serving daily newspaper in the Maldives, established on January 1, 1979. Maldivian, also known by its endonym Dhivehi or Divehi ( ; '' dv, links=no, ދިވެހި'', ), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in the South Asian island country of Maldives and on Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep, union territory of India. The Maldivian language has notable dialects. The standard dialect is that of the capital city, Malé. The greatest dialectal variation is from the southern atolls Huvadu, Addu and Fuvahmulah of Maldives. Each of those atolls has its own dialect closely related to each other but very different from the northern atolls. The southern atoll dialects are so distinct that those only speaking northern dialects cannot understand them.
